Freddie Prinze Jr. doesn’t want people to buy him Christmas gifts

Freddie Prins Jr. has the best Christmas when there is nothing for him under the tree.

“I never want anything,” Prinze Jr., 47, exclusively shared We weekly earlier this month as he launched his partnership with Libby’s vegetables. “I like the things that do that [my kids] make me, but I talk to Sara [Michelle Gellar] every year I say, ‘Don’t give me anything,’ and she just gives me something that she knows I like, but it’s always a little something. Prinze Jr. recalled a conversation he had with 46-year-old Gellar about his disdain for receiving Christmas presents.

“I remember telling her one year, ‘If I want something, I’ll buy it,’” he said Us. “And she says, ‘Oh, there’s the Christmas spirit.’ I thought, ‘Well, no, I just mean I don’t want you to waste your money on me.’ And she says, ‘Then say that! What you said was terrible, it sounded like Scrooge.’”

The actor admitted that he eventually apologized to his wife for his lack of Christmas cheer. Although Prinze Jr. doesn’t like receiving gifts for himself, he enjoys spending quality time with Gellar and their children. While the Gellar-Prinze Jr. family Spending Christmas in a warm and sunny place, the parents make sure to still have a ‘smaller’ Christmas party, where the children can open their presents before they leave.

“There’s a garbage bag in the corner and wrapping paper everywhere, and the kids help out for the first five minutes,” Prinze Jr. teased. “And then they run off with their toys and the parents do the rest.”

Although Prinze Jr. isn’t super excited about Christmas, he does have a soft spot for Thanksgiving. Ahead of the holidays, he said he plans to prepare a turkey with all the standard side dishes that come with the traditional meal. In addition to cooking for his family, Prinze Jr. worked. teamed up with Libby Groenten to share his special recipes for the ‘Thanks & Giving’ program.

The campaign will continue until the end of December.

“If I can be part of that [giving out] 500,000 cans of food, that would be great,” Prinze Jr. said. ‘I don’t know how to dance a jig, but I’ll dance one [if the goal is reached].”
