Girls Aloud have revealed Hugh Grant’s iconic dance scene in Love Actually ‘saved them’ after fears they were being dropped by the record label.
The band – Cheryl Tweedy, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh – appeared on This Morning on Wednesday after confirming their long-awaited reunion.
In an interview with Alison Hammond, the group reflected on their career ahead of their upcoming tour.
Nicola explained how the 2003 romantic Christmas comedy marked a ‘turning point’ for them when their cover of Jump appeared on the UK soundtrack.
In the famous scene, Hugh danced through 10 Downing Street as Prime Minister to the original version of The Pointer Sisters song before realizing someone was watching him and quickly stopped.

Girl Aloud featured in both the film’s opening credits and soundtrack, peaking at number two in the UK Singles Chart, with its accompanying music video featuring scenes from the film.
Nicola said: “It was a turning point. We were actually supposed to be dropped off at the label before Jump.
“The numbers went from 1 to 2 to 3, and it was a huge success and saved us.”
The band plans to hit the road in May and June 2024, as it marks 21 years since she and the late Sarah Harding won Popstars: The Rivals.
Elsewhere in the interview, the band spoke about their upcoming tour and how they plan to “celebrate” their late friend.
Nicola continued: “We’re going to work really hard to make those Sarah moments so magical, making the fans feel so involved and giving everyone that moment to celebrate her in a big way.
“What we want to do is capture the kind of nostalgia that we’ve created over the years with her as five,” Kimberley added.
‘We have old songs. We can’t leave out any of Alison’s hits.’

Cheryl revealed they had been discussing the plans for some time, but shelved the idea when Sarah – who died in September 2021 – was diagnosed with cancer.
She said in a statement: “We all started talking a few years ago about the possibility of doing something to celebrate Girls Aloud’s 20th anniversary. The anniversary seemed like an obvious thing to celebrate.
‘But when Sarah got sick, all priorities changed. She passed away a year before the anniversary and it just didn’t feel right, it felt too soon.”
