You probably don’t even have to go to the shops, because you probably already have them in your children’s craft box.

Construction expert Andy Simms, from MyBuilder.comexplained that chalk is one of the best solutions to try, in addition to longer-term methods, to rid yourself of condensation… and mold.

“The key to removing condensation is to absorb the moisture,” he said.

“Using chalk markers removes the condensation, while the clove oil prevents the mold from returning.

“Place the chalk on windowsills or other areas affected by condensation, and it will help absorb moisture from the air.”

You can then use clove oil to wipe away any mold, as “the natural method is generally believed to be an effective deterrent against its return.”

“You can even apply the clove oil directly to the mega crayon and put it in a drawer for extra support,” Andy added.

“However, it is important to note that undiluted clove oil can be toxic to pets – so don’t leave it where they can reach it.”

Other tips to combat condensation and mold include leaving your curtains open, even at night.

“Having your curtains or blinds open will improve ventilation in your home,” explains Andy.

“It also makes it easier to heat the windows to prevent condensation.

“This can also be applied at night, but may not be suitable for some homeowners if they have privacy or security concerns.”

And if possible, leave your bedroom door behind as well.

“This may sound strange, but sleeping people create a surprising amount of moisture; in fact, it’s thought that one sleeping person adds half a liter of water to the air overnight,” said Andy. ]

“Many windows these days have the feature of opening the window slightly to allow airflow, so even if you’re on the ground floor this is a possibility.”

Millions of Brits are struggling with mold problems in their homes – made worse by February being one of the wettest months on record, according to new data.

In fact, 38 percent of homeowners reported a mold problem in their home this year, compared to just 23 percent who previously reported having mold in their home.

And if you’re one of those who have trouble keeping mold at bay, you might want to think twice about taking long, hot showers.

“A little change in your showering habits will make a big difference,” said Andy.

“A shorter, colder shower reduces the amount of condensation in your home.

“If you want longer, hotter showers ensure the room is ventilated via an open window or an extractor hood.”
