I built a 25 meter CASTLE in my garden with damsels and guards…I was tired of just visiting others, says ‘Lord Gregorious’

A pensioner has built an 80ft castle in his back garden after he got tired of visiting others.

Gerry Halman, or Lord Gregarious as he likes to call himself, has spent the past 34 years creating the medieval-style building.

Located in Gerry’s garden in the village of Blesdijke, approximately 110 kilometers northeast of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, Olt Stoutenburght Castle cuts a beautiful figure in its surroundings.

With four towers containing several floors, a great hall, suits of armor and an underground cellar, the castle was built with great attention to detail.

What’s even more impressive is how Gerry worked on the structure almost single-handedly.

“I’m really a fan of history,” Gerry explains. “I visited many castles, but at a certain point that was not enough.

“I had to build one myself.

“I always get inspiration for my work from books and visiting other castles.”

Gerry also claims to have been particularly inspired by Romanesque architecture.

But despite working on the project for more than thirty years, he insists the project is still not completed.

Gerry even admits that the fantasy castle may never be completed in his lifetime.

He said: “I don’t have any construction drawings because everything is in my head.

“The castle is never finished.”

Gerry, who is building the castle on an underlying layer of Ice Age clay on his land, used to run a costume shop.

As such, he has placed mannequins around the castle as tower guards and damsels in distress.

Although the project is still not completed, Olt Stoutenburght Castle can be rented on a limited basis for parties and weddings.
