I’m a cleaning expert and here’s how to prevent ants from entering your home without harsh chemicals – the product you need is probably already in your closet

A cleaning expert has revealed her easy tip for banishing ants from your home in seconds with a household product.

Earlier this week, influencers cleaned up Purdy and Figg caused a sensation on TikTok when they showed their 297,000 followers how to get rid of the pests without killing them.

They said, “To prevent ants from entering your home, you must first find out where they come from.”

Once you’ve done this, the brand — which was founded by Purdy Rubin of Buckinghamshire and friend Charlotte — said homeowners don’t have to use harsh chemicals to solve their bug problem.

Instead, they recommended using baking soda on the area to drive the pests away until you can secure the opening.

They continued, “Block the route by leaving a line of baking soda.

“This should get them to turn around without hurting them.”

To demonstrate how they do this at home, the brand’s social media editor filmed herself perfecting a semicircle of baking soda around a crack in the floor.

Baking soda can kill ants if they ingest it, so the smell will instinctively keep them away.

The brand captioned the clip: “Also, try not to leave any open food in your kitchen as that will attract them even more!”

The video has been viewed more than 1.5 million times since it was uploaded earlier this week — and TikTok users urged people to take Purdy & Figg’s advice rather than kill ants.

One of them replied, ‘Ants eat aphids, so don’t kill them. They are part of our circle of life!’

Another ranted, “Keep finding them in my kitchen!!!!! Not much, but I just can’t find where they’re coming from.’

“Sprinkle cinnamon on top and your house smells good too,” said a third.

Earlier this year, pest control expert Jonathan Nicholls of HowHow spoke to MailOnline and revealed that the reason many households have a problem with ants is that the bugs are attracted to food, water and shelter.

The first step in getting rid of ants is figuring out what attracts them to your home in the first place. Whether it’s a stray spoon in the sink or a sticky bit of jam on a jar, there’s always a source. Start by clearing anything that attracts the ants and, if you’re lucky, they may go away on their own.

Ants work in teams and search for food sources using pheromones. These pheromones then leave a trail for the other ants to follow. This means that simply wiping the ants away will not be effective as the pheromone trail will still be present. Instead, you must destroy the path. You can do this by mixing one part vinegar with three parts water and simply spray this mixture in any room where you have seen the ants.

It is quite easy to keep ants out of your home naturally. Ants hate the scent of lavender and peppermint. Mix a solution of lavender oil or peppermint oil with water and spray this mixture on all entry points, such as around windows and doors.

However, peppermint oil can be toxic to pets and can cause animals to develop liver damage, digestive problems or seizures if ingested or inhaled. It is recommended that owners keep their pets away from the area when using the mixture.
