He had faced trial on a further 115 claims against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN), but the court heard the case has been settled. Harry receive a “substantial additional amount”.

This includes an interim payment of £400,000 towards costs, his lawyer said.

Piers was mentioned in the ruling because of his role as editor of the newspaper between 1995 and 2004.

Today he attacked Harry and said: “I completely agree Prince Harry that ruthless intrusion into the private life of the Royal family because financial gain is completely reprehensible… and I hope he stops.”

Piers also echoed the sentiment in a statement read outside his home this evening.

The presenter previously insisted he had “zero knowledge” of the only article published during his time in charge that may have related to illegal information gathering.

Prince Harry wouldn't know the truth if it hit him on his Californian tanned face, says Piers Morgan after his statement

He also claimed Harry has been repeatedly exposed “as someone who wouldn't know the truth if it slapped him on his California-tanned face.”

Piers previously added: “Prince Harry's outrage at the media's intrusion into the private lives of… Royal family is matched only by his own ruthless, greedy and hypocritical enthusiasm for doing it himself.”

He also attacked Harry for bringing a case against the “appalling behavior of the press” as he “repeatedly publicly trashed his family to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.”

Piers also claimed that Harry's “real mission, along with his wife, is to destroy the British monarchy”, before vowing to do everything he could to stop the couple.

He added: “He demands accountability from the press but refuses to accept it for himself – for vilifying the Royal Family, his own family, as a bunch of heartless racists without providing a shred of evidence to back up these outrageous claims to substantiate.”

Harry was previously awarded £140,600 in damages after a judge ruled that Harry's phone had been hacked “to a modest extent” by Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN).
