Jet lag-er! The incredible pub beer garden just 50 feet from the end of an airplane runway

This beer garden is great.

Welcome to The Airport Pub, with a spacious pub garden just 50 feet from the end of the runway at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 3, making it a hot spot for aviation enthusiasts.

And it’s home to an outdoor bar aptly titled “The Hangar.”

“Come enjoy the spectacle and excitement of our view as it is the closest thing to an aircraft you can get without boarding in the UK,” says the pub website reveals.

TikTok user Jenna Goodwin shared a video tour of the Mancunian pub garden earlier this year, noting: ‘There [aren’t] lots of pubs where you can literally see jumbo jets flying at the end of the beer garden.’ Goodwin, who says she’s been going to the pub for a number of years, adds that it’s a ‘little bit of a hidden gem’.

The outdoor ‘Hangar’ bar serves up ‘high-flying food’ inspired by a diner, the pub’s website notes

She says the planes flying overhead can be “quite loud,” but plane spotters “love it,” adding: “It’s also great fun on a windy day – if you dress warm you can see [the planes] wobbling as they come in.’

In the clip, she shows how it has a TV screen that displays a live aircraft tracker that tracks incoming and outgoing flights.

The interior continues the aviation theme, with retro ‘spitfire’ armchairs and circular cabins that mimic the shape of jet engines.

In addition to liquor and cocktails, the pub’s website offers a “high-flying food” menu, featuring dishes like cheeseburgers and nachos. The children’s menu is supposed to be for ‘little fliers’. Not only that, but there is also an outdoor playground to keep kids entertained throughout the day.

Goodwin comments: ‘If you’re going on holiday and you’re departing from Manchester Airport, I’d definitely recommend going to this pub rather than eating in the terminal.’

The pub has received many positive reviews from aviation enthusiasts on Tripadvisor, with reviewer ‘hjp79’ writing, “You can almost touch the planes as they take off and land because the fence at the bottom of the yard is literally a few feet from the tarmac of the runway.”

And reviewer ‘lottie pug17’ wrote: ‘It was great to see the planes so close.’

While ‘hannahw504’ said it is a prime spot for plane spotting.

One downside, however, is the parking charges – customers have pointed out that these are relatively pricey, with the expensive charges deterring holidaymakers from leaving their cars in the car parks when they go abroad. It costs £5.40 to park at the pub for up to three hours.
