The state’s Democratic governor, Andy Beshear, will try to fend off a challenge Tuesday from Daniel Cameron, Kentucky’s Republican attorney general.

Mr. Beshear is an attractive target for Republicans in this staunchly Republican state, but his popularity could make him a difficult opponent for Cameron, who is considered a rising star in the Republican Party.

Polls in Kentucky are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time.

Voters will need a valid ID, such as a driver’s license or Social Security card, to vote in person. Registration for this election is closed. Voters can check their status online here.

All absentee ballots must be received by a county clerk by 6 p.m. local time on Tuesday, meaning it is too late to return an absentee ballot by mail. Voters can hand in their ballot at a drop-off point until 6 p.m

While the governor’s race is the state’s top contest on Tuesday, several other state executive offices, including lieutenant governor and attorney general, will also participate in Tuesday’s voting.

Complete sample ballots are available at the website of the State Secretary.
