King Charles “appreciates the Princess of Wales for the solid family network” she has given Prince William and for showing his grandchildren a “normal” life, a royal expert has said.

The monarch – who turns 75 today – is said to be completely ‘devoted’ to his grandchildren and ‘admires’ the parenting approach of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Speak with OK!Royal expert Jennie Bond talks about the relationship between Charles and Kate and how the princess’s ‘normal’ background is beneficial for Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8) and Prince Louis (5).

She explained: ‘I think Charles admires and appreciates the solid family network she has created for William.

‘The King is devoted to his grandchildren, George, Charlotte and Louis, and photos show he has an easy relationship with all three. I’m sure he’s very proud of the way Kate is raising them.’

Furthermore, the expert – the BBC’s former royal correspondent – highlighted how the Princess of Wales had to learn exactly what it means to be a member of the royal family.

Having grown up away from the spotlight, Jennie called the Princess of Wales the “perfect person” to help her children understand their role in the firm.

She added: ‘I think Kate is the key to a balanced upbringing for her children, but especially for a boy who was born to be king. She has learned what it means to be royal: both the limitations and the privileges.”

At the anniversary concert outside Buckingham Palace last year, Charles proved he was a doting grandfather when he stepped in to give Kate a break from Prince Louis’ cheeky antics.

During the concert, the King was seen with the youngest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales on his knee and pointed out things that interested the youngster.

Earlier this month, King Charles lovingly called Kate his “beloved daughter-in-law” during a state visit to Kenya.

While delivering a speech at a state banquet in Nairobi, King Charles recalled Prince William and Kate’s engagement in Kenya in 2010.

He said: ‘It was here, within sight of Mount Kenya, that my son, the Prince of Wales, proposed to his wife, now my beloved daughter-in-law.’

Prince William proposed to his then-girlfriend Kate Middleton in October 2010 in a log cabin during a safari at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, where he had spent part of his gap year almost a decade earlier.

Kate is known to have a warm relationship with her father-in-law and has reportedly helped smooth out the sometimes fractious relationship between the King and his son William.

King Charles and Kate have also shown several public signs of their close relationship in recent years.

For example, the Princess of Wales affectionately called her father-in-law by the family nickname “Grandpa” when she greeted him at a G7 reception in 2021.

Meanwhile, the then Duchess of Cambridge shared a kiss on the cheek with her grief-stricken father-in-law in April 2021 as they left Prince Philip’s funeral.

Kate comforted Charles as the couple left St George’s Chapel after the emotional service in memory of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Photos show Kate comforting the then Prince of Wales over the loss of his father by placing her hand on his shoulder. She then kissed him on the cheek as they left the entrance to the chapel.

Elsewhere, when greeting each other at engagements, Kate and the King will often share a friendly embrace and kiss each other on the cheeks.

Moreover, Prince William is also said to see Carole Middleton as a ‘second mother’.

Carole, the Princess of Wales’ mother, has given Prince William a “real sense of normalcy amid all the chaos” since he married Kate in 2011, royal biographer Angela Levin said The sun in 2021.
