Jammu: The Indian Army foiled a major infiltration bid at the Khour International Border (IB) in Jammu’s Akhnoor early on Saturday. One terrorist was killed when security forces guarding the IB foiled the terrorists’ attempt. The operation took place when it was spotted that a group of four heavily armed terrorists were trying to sneak into this side from the other side of the IB in Akhnoor’s Khour sector in the early hours, officials said.

They said the troops fired effective fire at the infiltrating terrorists and one of them was hit and fell. However, the body of the deceased was dragged back across the IB by his associates, the officials said.

Meanwhile, mobile internet services were suspended in Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir early Saturday as security forces continued their massive search operation to track down terrorists behind the recent ambush on two army vehicles that left five soldiers dead.

The suspension of mobile internet services in the twin border districts followed the mysterious deaths of three persons after they were reportedly detained by the military for interrogation, and widespread resentment among the people following the circulation of videos allegedly showing the torture of the suspects was to see.

While both the army and civil authorities are tight-lipped about the situation on the ground, official sources told PTI that mobile internet services had been suspended in both Poonch and Rajouri districts as a precautionary measure to check rumors and prevent miscreants from creating trouble would cause to public order. .

Three to four heavily armed terrorists targeted a gypsy army and a truck in Dhatyar Morh between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz, under the jurisdiction of Surankote police station in Poonch, late on Thursday afternoon, killing five soldiers and injuring two others. After the attack, the terrorists reportedly mutilated the bodies of at least two soldiers and took weapons from some of them.

Immediately after the attack, a massive search operation was launched in the densely forested areas, including nearby Thanamandi in Rajouri, but so far there has been no new contact with the fleeing terrorists.

Three people, who were among those held for questioning by the military in connection with Thursday’s attack, died mysteriously on Friday. The sources said their bodies have been handed over to their families for the last rites as investigations into their deaths continue.

The deceased were identified as Safeer Hussain (43), Mohd Showket (27) and Shabir Ahmad (32) from Topa Peer village in Bufliaz, but the cause of death was not immediately known.
