The gigafactory, the only Tesla factory in Europe, is forced to stop production for the rest of the week due to a current power outage after a high-voltage pylon near the location caught fire.

German police said the fire had been extinguished by firefighters, adding that the incident was being investigated as suspected arson.

According to Imagethe cost of the damage amounts to hundreds of millions of pounds.

In a 2,700-word statement published online, the far-left group known as Vulkangruppe said: “We sabotaged Tesla today.”

They described the hit as a gift mark international Women’s Day on the 8th of March.

The statement published by local media said: “Tesla in Grünau eats earth, raw materials, people, labor and spits out 6,000 SUVs, killing machines and monster trucks every week.

“Our gift for March 8 is closing Tesla.”

The group continued to accuse the company of contaminating drinking water and blamed the companies Tesla chief, 52, for ‘militarizing the road’ using cars as a ‘weapon’ while calling for the destruction of the giant factory.

“Together we will bring Tesla to its knees. Switch off for Tesla,” the statement concludes.

Police said they were aware of the letter, signed “Agua De Pau”, the name of a volcanic mountain in the Azores, and said they were checking its authenticity.

A Tesla spokesperson confirmed that production had stopped and the site had been evacuated.

The suspected arson – which did not spread to the Tesla location – left several homes in the area without fire current.

Brandenburg official Dietmar Woidke condemned the alleged attack, saying: “This is clearly a serious attack on our critical infrastructure affecting thousands of people and many small and large businesses in our state.

“Attacks on our critical infrastructure are a form of terrorism.”

‘EXTREMELY STUPID’

While the Tesla boss described the strike as ‘extremely stupid’.

Musk posted on X: “These are the dumbest eco-terrorists in the world Soil or they are puppets of those who do not have good environmental goals.

‘Stopping the production of electric vehicles, instead fossil fuel vehicles, ist extrem dumm.” (“extremely stupid” in German).

Brandenburg’s local interior minister, Michael Stuebgen, said: “If the initial findings are confirmed, this will be an insidious attack on our electricity infrastructure.

“That will have consequences. Here, thousands of people were cut off from basic services and were in danger.”

The suspected strike follows a series of arson attacks against Tesla vehicles and charging stations.

German Police are investigating the hits as “left-wing politically motivated” crimes.

It is not the first time that the Volcano group has been suspected of arson against Tesla; an impact on the construction site near Gruenheide damaged several power cables in 2021.

At the time, the far-left group accused Tesla of being neither green, ecological nor social.

Meanwhile, environmentalists have protested in a forest near the factory against Tesla’s plans to expand.

During the Stop Tesla protest, dozens of activists set up tents and built tree houses, some several meters above the ground, a tactic used in previous German environmental protests.

Tesla wants to expand the factory after the factory opens in March 2022.

Those plans would involve clearing more than 247 hectares of forest, angering environmentalists and other local groups.

In a non-binding vote in mid-February, residents of the municipality rejected Tesla’s plans, which still require approval from local authorities.
