It was on this day in 2009 that news began to spread of Michael Jackson’s death, just three weeks before his sold-out concert residency in London, England, was due to begin.

Paramedics were called to 911 at 12:22 a.m. PT about reports that the so-called King Of Pop was not breathing. Emergency responders arrived just three minutes late and began resuscitating him, all the way to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

Ultimately, Jackson was pronounced dead at 2:26 p.m. PT, which was more than an hour after arriving at the hospital.

Over the days and weeks, it was revealed that his personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, had given Jackson several drugs to help him sleep at his rented mansion in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles.

Paris Jackson was just 11 years old when she heard the heartbreaking news of her father’s passing.

“They always say, ‘Time heals,'” Jackson said in a Rolling stone interview in 2017, when she was 18. “But it really doesn’t. You just get used to it. I live life with the mindset of “OK, I’ve lost the only thing that ever mattered to me.” So in the future, whatever bad happens may not be nearly as bad as what happened before. So I can handle it.’

At the time, she revealed how her father had visited her regularly in her dreams.

“I feel him with me all the time,” she added.

Within four years of her father’s death, Paris was drowning in depression and drug addiction, leading to a suicide attempt at age 15 by slitting her wrist and taking 20 Motrin pills.

Paris called that period of her life one of “self-loathing” and “low self-esteem.”

And on top of that, she began to self-injure by “cutting herself,” which she managed to hide from her family.

Now, 10 years after those dark days, Paris Jackson seems to have come out on the other side and embarked on a career in rock music.

Most recently, she released her single Bandaid and the soft-hard dynamic between the verses and choruses is a stylized songwriting tool for alternative rock bands of yesteryear, such as Nirvana.

Her previous single, Just You, which was released in 2022, is another catchy sing-along, mid-tempo rock romper.

Jackson last released a batch of new songs with The Lost EP, And That’s Just That, an extended play coming out February 2022 via Republic Records.

Just a few years ago, the musician released music as part of the musical duo The Soundflowers, along with Gabriel Glenn.

With a stripped down acoustic sound, including Jackson on vocals and a ukulele and Glenn on guitar and vocals, The Soundflowers released their first self-titled EP in June 2020.
