Queen Camilla says Charles is doing well and doing his best after prostate surgery as she opens new Maggie's cancer support center

The king is doing well and doing his best after his three-night stay in hospital, the queen said today.

Camilla, 76, was asked how her husband was doing as she officially opened a new Maggie's cancer support center at the Royal Free Hospital in North West London.

She met donors including Sir Gerald Ronson, who asked about the king's health following his treatment for an enlarged prostate.

“He's making progress and doing his best,” she replied.

Dori Dana-Haeri, who led fundraising for the new center, said she was “so happy” that Charles, 75, was doing well.

Queen Camilla nodded as she said, “Thank God.”

Supporter Sir Michael Pakenham added: 'All best wishes to His Majesty for the very best recovery.'

Camilla replied: 'Thank you very much, that's very kind. I'll pass it on.'

The King was discharged from the London Clinic on Monday and appeared in good spirits as he left the hospital with his wife by his side.

The engagement on Wednesday marked Camilla's 17th visit to a Maggie's center and her first as queen.

She has been president of Maggie's since 2008.

“I try to walk around them, but every time another one pops up, so I can never quite catch up,” she joked.

The King's wife, who was greeted by curators from the Royal Collection Trust, enjoyed a short tour of the house before seeing the 20 works created to celebrate the 100th anniversary.

These include beautiful miniature manuscripts, painstakingly written and decorated by hand.

They were bound by leading designer bookbinders – 'as ​​part of the anniversary initiative to create a modern miniature library, providing a snapshot of contemporary literature in Britain'.

The King's wife, who will be greeted by the Royal Collection Trust Curators, will enjoy a short tour of the house before seeing the 20 works created to celebrate the 100th anniversary.

The 75-year-old monarch was admitted to the private hospital around 9am last Friday morning where he underwent a corrective procedure for the benign condition.

It comes just hours after his daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales, left the same clinic two weeks after a planned abdominal operation.

Buckingham Palace released a statement following the King's discharge from hospital, saying: 'The King was discharged from hospital this afternoon following planned medical treatment and has postponed upcoming public appointments to allow for a period of private recovery make possible.

'His Majesty would like to thank the medical team and everyone involved in supporting his hospital visit, and is grateful for all the kind messages he has received in recent days.'

Kate Middleton also returned home today after a two-week stay in hospital after abdominal surgery – with flowers showing a royal aide bringing flowers left by well-wishers back to Windsor.

Kate, 42, is not expected to be on official assignments until after Easter, with her husband Prince William clearing his diary of official duties while she recovers at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor Great Park.

Kate went to hospital 14 days ago on Tuesday, January 16 – with royal aides saying she was 'making good progress' and would now continue her recovery from home.
