A SIXTH ‘Russian spy’ has been charged with conspiracy to carry out espionage in Britain following a major investigation by counter-terror police.

The move by the Crown Prosecution Service follows an investigation by the Crown Prosecution Service Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command.

Tihomir Ivanchev, of Acton, west Londonwill appear in court on Wednesday.

He is the sixth person to be charged conspiracy in an investigation into people suspected of spying for Russiathe Crown Prosecution Service said.

Nick Price, head of the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, said: “The CPS has approved a charge of conspiracy to commit espionage against a sixth person suspected of spying for Russia.

“Tihomir Ivanchev, 38, will be charged with conspiracy to obtain, collect, record, publish or communicate documents or information that might be directly or indirectly useful or intended for a purpose prejudicial to the security and interest of the stands.

“On September 21, 2023, Orlin Roussev, 46, Bizer Dzhambazov, 42, Katrin Ivanova, 32, Ivan Stojanov, 32, and Vanya Gaberova29, were charged between August 30, 2020 and February 8, 2023 with conspiracy to collect information intended to be directly or indirectly useful to an enemy for a purpose prejudicial to the security and interest of the state.

“The charges follow an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.

“Criminal proceedings are underway against the six people and they are each entitled to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important that there is no online reporting, commenting or sharing of information that could in any way prejudice these proceedings.

“The function of the CPS is not to decide whether a person is guilty of a criminal offence, but to make fair, independent and objective judgments about whether it is appropriate to lay charges so that a criminal court can consider them .”
