When can we expect results tonight in South Carolina's Democratic primaries?

Expect a relatively early Saturday evening in South Carolina, where President Biden faces little opposition in the first official Democratic primary of the cycle. Polls close at 7:00 PM Eastern Time and results should be available not long after. News media will most likely call the race before all votes are counted on Saturday evening.

The Associated Press will declare a winner of the race after the state reports initial results. In 2020, the AP called Democratic primary right at 7 p.m. for Mr. Biden, who won the state with 54 percent of the vote. This year, Mr. Biden is leading the polls an even greater margin and he has far fewer opponents.

Election officials will most likely count nearly all of the ballots before the end of the evening. In 2020, South Carolina election officials counted 98 percent of votes before going on an overnight break at 12:17 p.m., according to The AP

These results will be unofficial until after the election is certified, which will take place on the Thursday after Primary Day.
