School holidays declared today in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Puducherry, amid heavy rains, view details

Due to heavy rains, several schools and colleges were closed in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai and Villupuram districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

Schools in Puducherry will also remain closed on November 16 due to heavy rain.

Tamil Nadu School Closure News Today: Amid heavy rains in the state, the Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday declared holidays for all schools in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Puducherry. Moreover, colleges in Puducherry will remain closed on November 16 due to heavy rains.

Due to heavy rains, several schools and colleges were closed in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai and Villupuram districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. On Tuesday, Puducherry had also declared a public holiday for schools and colleges.

The development comes after the India Meteorological Department forecast heavy rains in several districts including Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore and Puducherry on November 14.

The weather department has also issued an orange alert, stating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Notably, several parts of Tamil Nadu have received heavy rains for the past two days after the coastal and interior areas received heavy rains on Tuesday.

The Met office has forecast the possibility of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on November 14 and 15.

According to the weather forecast agency, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours due to cyclonic upper air circulation over the southwestern Bay of Bengal and over the South Andaman Sea. It said the low pressure area is likely to move west-northwestward and concentrate into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal around November 16.

The IMD has also forecast more rainfall on November 15 in Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Chengalpattu districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Karaikal.

The weather department said weather conditions in Chennai are likely to remain generally cloudy and moderate rain will occur at a few places in the city on Wednesday with thundershowers and lightning. It said heavy spells may occur in some areas.

The weather bureau also stated that light to moderate rainfall is likely at several places in coastal Tamil Nadu on Wednesday and light to moderate rain is expected at many places, including coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
