The footage shows the new Oceana Waterworld attraction in Gothenburg going up in flames, sending thick black smoke into the air. sky.

The brutal fire ripped through the structure and reduced the water park to “nothing but a skeleton,” a witness told Expressen.

Firefighters are struggling to control the flames as the cause of the explosion remains unknown.

The alarm was raised at 10 a.m. local time with reports of a fire, which was followed moments later by an explosion.

According to the press release, the fire started at one of the water attractions outside the building and then spread to the entire building.

Firefighter Björn van der Kaay told the Swedish press: “We know that there are fires in water slides, among other things, but we don't know how it started.”

The fire brigade has warned of the risk of the flames spreading to nearby homes.

People living in nearby neighborhoods were ordered to stay indoors and close windows to avoid toxic fumes.

Spokesman for the rescue services, Klas Lüppert, told SVT: “There is a lot of plastic in the construction.

“So [the smoke] is not healthy to breathe. That's why we're going out with a public health warning.”

The hotel adjacent to the park has been evacuated along with several apartment and office buildings.

The roads leading to the site are closed as firefighters continue to battle the flames.

There were reports of injuries, but no official statement has been released yet.

Sahlgrenska University Hospital confirmed it had treated four patients for minor injuries, but gave no further details.

According to witnesses, there was a strong smell of “burnt plastic” in the air.

A resident told Expressen: “First we saw smoke, then fire and then it exploded.

“We've seen how the water slide has formed over several months. Now it only looks like there's a skeleton left.”

An unnamed employee at the location told SVT: “The windows started shaking. The parts of the slide might as well have been flying towards us.

“We had to leave everything and run away.”

Oceana Waterworld is a new addition to the Liseberg theme park, which cost £91 million to build and is due to open later this year.

If completed, it would have become one of the largest water parks in Europe.

The subcontractor was working on the yet-to-be-opened water slide when the fire broke out, Swedish broadcaster SVT reports.

Following the devastating incident, Liseberg CEO Andreas Anderson told local newspaper Göteborgs-Posten that “crisis management” was being activated while the board was due to meet.
