Now a warning pops up offering bad daters some guidance.

But it also says that if their poor form continues it “may result in your account being banned”.

These warnings are intended to provide transparency and warn users when they are not engaging in acceptable and respectful behavior

The new warnings are divided into three categories: authenticity, respect and inclusivity.

They cover in-app behavior when interacting with other users, such as harassment and protecting users from advertising and impersonation.

“Globally, online dating is now the most common way for singles to meet new people, with 53% of people under 30 using dating apps,” said Nicole Blumenfeld, VP of Trust & Safety Operations at Tinder.

“These warnings are intended to provide transparency and alert users when they are not engaging in acceptable and respectful behavior.

“By providing users with more transparency about their behavior, we not only empower them to immediately course-correct, but also deliver a better experience for the broader Tinder community.”

When users receive a warning, it remains a visible message that they cannot delete.

They will be released worldwide in the coming weeks.

How does Tinder detect bad messages?

Users may wonder how Tinder can tell if your messages are inappropriate.

The company uses what it calls “real-time machine learning,” which is essentially a form of AI that works on the fly, as well as advanced technology monitoring to spot bad phrases.

Real-time functions such as 'Are you affected by this' and 'Are you sure?' already seem to encourage people to change their behavior.

Human verification is also used if someone is flagged multiple times, with a special team checking whether messages violate the rules.

Tinder in numbers

Tinder is one of the most popular dating apps in the world.

It was launched in 2012.

The app has been more than downloaded 530 million time.

And it is now available in 190 countries around the world, with more than 45 languages.
