They may be high in the polls, but according to interior designer and arbiter of taste Nicky Haslam, the Welsh are boring, boring, boring.
And he says that because they like to wear a lot of blue – and emphasize this even more by matching their outfits to those of their children.
For those who don’t know, Haslam is an Old Etonian interior designer and waspish commentator who this year included William, Kate and family on his annual Common List, a playful compilation of things that have upset him over the past year.
As Richard Eden reports in today’s Daily Mail, the list is printed on a tea towel – or drying towel, as Haslam calls it – and sold to friends for £40 a time.
“You see endless photos of the whole family in different shades of blue,” he tells Eden. “It’s customary… Wouldn’t little Princess Charlotte like to wear white?”
As for the coordination, he dismisses it as ‘childish’, a comment that is all the more pointed because Haslam worked for Charles and is a friend of Queen Camilla!
But the Waleses are unlikely to care too much.
The intended message of the color coordination has always been clear: they are a unified family unit that fulfills their role to the best of their ability.
And whether Haslam likes blue or not, the family is in pink right now…

For the 2017 Trooping the Color parade, Kate and her only daughter both wore pretty shades of pink for their balcony looks, with William and George supporting the classic red.
The year 2016 marked Princess Charlotte’s first Trooping the Color appearance on the balcony, and Kate used the public outing to show off her coordination skills, with Charlotte wearing a pale pink dress and matching hair bow that perfectly matched Kate’s pink hat.
A trip to Canada in 206 resulted in a color coordination for the whole family, with the Welsh matching their two eldest children in cream, red and blue
