A clever hack ensures that employees get 55 days off next year, while they only take 25 vacation days.
Beth Turbutt-Rogers, 28 – nicknamed ‘budgetingmumofficial’ Instagram – shared a clip with details on how to maximize your free time in 2024.
By linking days off to weekends and public holidays, employees can get more than seven weeks off.
The hack only works for people who do not work on weekends and are entitled to public holidays.
Beth, who has 144,000 followers on Instagram, wrote: ‘Wouldn’t we all like to have longer periods off work?

‘By linking your annual leave to holidays and weekends you can get more consecutive days off, meaning you have more time to go away or make plans with your annual leave.

EASY EASTER
Let’s start with Easter. Good Friday takes place on March 29. Easter Monday falls on April 1.
If your workplace is closed on weekends and public holidays, you can make this a 16-day break with just eight days of leave. Simply book March 25 – 28 and April 2 – 5 off work.
Make the most of May
Then you can take a smart holiday promotion in May by taking nine days of holiday for the price of just four holiday days.
If you book four days off either side of the May bank holidays, which take place in the autumn of May 6 and 27, 2024, you will get nine days off, including weekends.
She took to Instagram to preview a video that revealed some of the best calendar dates you can request from your boss, and explained the explanation month by month

If this sounds too good to be true… just wait until August, when it gets even better, with a potential nine-day vacation that takes up just four days of precious leave.
This is how it works. August 24 and 25 are weekend days. Then on Monday you have the public holiday of August 26. Book August 27 to 30 as annual leave, then you still have a weekend.
FESTIVE FUN
Another example she gave fell around the holidays.
Beth suggested taking December 23, 24, 27, 30 and 31 off work.
The cunning trick would amount to a total of 12 days off in the month of December 2024.
She concluded by applying the methodology to all weekends and holidays in 2024: “25 annual vacation days = 55 days off,” she wrote.
