APPLE fans are excited after realizing that an iOS 17 feature introduced late last year can actually save tons of storage space on their iPhone.

It’s free and all it takes is one swipe in your settings, but there’s a catch.

The iOS 17 feature automatically removes verification codes in iMessages and Mail after users use the AutoFill feature.

Receiving verification codes sent to your iPhone can provide an extra layer of security for all your accounts.

But they can pile up and take up your storage space if you’re not careful.

iOS 17 was rolled out last September, just after Apple’s iPhone 15 hit shelves.

Although the neat trick was introduced to iPhones months ago, it may have been overlooked by many as the feature is tucked away in the Settings.

As Apple puts it: “If this setting is enabled in iOS 17 or later, your iPhone will automatically remove verification codes in Messages or Mail after the code is used with AutoFill.”

Here’s how to set it up and create more storage space:

  1. In the Settings app, tap Passwords.
  2. Tap Password Options.
  3. Turn on Auto Clean.

If you have not yet updated to iOS 17, it is important to ensure in advance that your device is eligible for the system upgrade.

When the feature was first revealed, Android owners were quick to point out that they had had access to this feature “for years.”

Despite this, one Twitter user said the iOS 17 feature was a sign that “it’s time to switch back to iOS.”
