THE race for the cheapest chocolate Easter eggs in the shops has begun and a new player has joined the game.

While other supermarkets have already launched a range of discounts on Easter eggs in recent weeks, new choc treats have now landed at Aldi, including three popular classics that are beating other stores on price.

Aldi currently has the cheapest offer on Cadbury crème eggs, costing £2.25 for a 200g carton.

The box contains five of the 40 gram eggs that have been around for more than 50 years.

Prices for the treats start at £2.50 in stores like Tesco or Asda, but in Co-op they are even more expensive at £2.85.

The discount supermarket also has the best deal on the large Celebrations Easter egg, priced at £2.99.

The hollow milk chocolate eggs come with a range of Celebrations treats such as Milky Bar and Twix.

Asda narrowly missed out on the top spot for cheapest deal, with the same Celebrations egg costing just 1p for £3.00 in stores.

But prices for the Easter egg are rising to £3.25 in Sainsurys and £3.50 in Iceland.

Aldi also has the best deals on Galaxy creamy truffles, they are small truffle filled chocolate eggs with delicious smooth Galaxy chocolate and creamy truffle center and you get about 74 grams per bag.

Aldi currently has the Easter treats for £1.25, while most other retailers are offering them for £1.35.

Surprisingly, Waitrose also had the Galaxy truffles for the same price, but unfortunately they are sold out.

These deals have no expiration date and are therefore available while supplies last.

Aldi doesn’t deliver, so you’ll have to go to the store for these bargains.

You can find your nearest store using the Aldi store locator on the website.

Despite these bargains, it looks like Asda is the supermarket to beat at least until this weekend, with a whole range of Easter eggs for just 60p.

The retailer has slashed its usual price of £1.25 to less than half, but shoppers have until March 10 to get their hands on the chocolates as they return to their original price.

Here’s the full list of Easter eggs included in the offer:

  • Cadbury Mini Eggs 97g
  • Kit Kat Coarse Egg 126g
  • Bluey Milk Chocolate Easter Egg and Bar 62g
  • Cadbury White Buttons Egg 98g
  • Paw Patrol Milk Chocolate Easter Egg and Bar 62g
  • Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons Chocolate Easter Egg, 98g
  • Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel Nibbles 96g
  • Cadbury Dairy Milk Freddo 96g
  • Milkybar White Chocolate Egg, 65g
  • Smarties egg 119g
  • Peppa Pig Milk Chocolate Easter Egg and Bar, 62g
  • Maltesers Milk Chocolate Medium Easter Egg, 127g

The bargain eggs are only available in certain stores, so you may have to go to a few different stores to find the egg you want.

Aldi also sells some of these Eatser branded eggs, such as Cadbury’s mini eggs, Cadbruy’s Twirl and Smarties.

But these are all priced at £1.25, more than double the current deal in Asda.

The closer we get to Easter, the more likely it is that other retailers will start competing to be the cheapest in an attempt to get your money, and prices change daily.

You can use shopping comparison tools such as Google Shopping and Trolley.co.uk to compare the cost of items from different sellers.

Also keep in mind that there’s a chance you might get a different offer in-store than online, so keep your eyes peeled.

How to save money at Aldi

It’s worth keeping an eye out for the retailer’s red stickers on the products; the staff will add these if something has been reduced in price.

But it may catch some shoppers off guard, as most supermarket chains are putting yellow stickers on discounted items.

In the meantime, follow the advice of super saver Tom Church and shop at the German discounter on Wednesday at 10am.

This is the time when the staff restocks their regular items and you have the best selection of products to choose from.

Aldi also publishes a special shopping brochure, in which you can read the items that are on sale every week.

It’s worth signing up for the Aldi newsletter and following them on social media.

Aldi also picks six fruits and vegetables every two weeks and delivers them at a ridiculously low price
