Below deck Mediterranean fans may have just noticed a major editing error on screen, or so they think.
During an episode of the hit Bravo series that aired earlier this month, Captain Sandy Yawn called to arrange transportation for Haleigh Gorman to a doctor. However, viewers questioned the authenticity of the conversation after an eagle-eyed fan pointed out that the captain’s phone screen was open to a keyboard.
“This is hilarious, Captain Sandy is supposedly ‘on the phone’ ordering a ride for a crew member to send to the doctor but her iPhone is on and there is no call in progress at the moment,” one social media user wrote via Reddit next to a screenshot of the scene.
Another fan argued that Sandy was still on the phone, adding in the comments section: “You can still access the keyboard while on the phone on the iPhone, god knows I do it countless times and the tones blowing through my ear during a conversation. ”
Several viewers agreed that the potential “continuity error” may have been intentional.
“To be honest I think it would be better reenacted as she would probably have to give private information during the actual conversation and too much would be bleeped out,” one social media user wrote, while another person replied: “It is all a puzzle put together, because nothing happens perfectly. That’s the beauty of production.”
Some Below deck fans were even excited at the prospect of an error. “That’s called ACTING!” wrote one Reddit user while complimenting Sandy.
Season 8 of Below deck Mediterranean has had its fair share of drama. The season started with main stew Tumi Mhlongo and second stew Kyle Viljoen stalled on immigration, which meant they could not join the first charter.
Natalya Scudder fulfilled as main stew until Tumi came on board. However, once the inner team was complete, Natalya had a falling out with Tumi and later with Kyle. She then left the season early after an argument with Kyle.
“My stomach was in knots. My problem is that in addition to the personal things at home, there are also things going on domestically,” Natalya told Sandy during an episode in November. ‘A lot has happened. I said nothing [before] but I had Jessika [Asai] I came over crying because Kyle came in hot the other day and yelled at her in a cabin.
Sandy supported Natalya’s decision to leave, but later spoke with Kyle to discuss the situation.
“Kyle, I have ears and I have eyes. Guess who is the common denominator of every situation that has occurred on this boat? … You’re the person who’s always in the shouting matches,” she fired back at Kyle. ‘I would never bring you back. You have no control over your emotions. This is a professional setting. You bully and you shout. I don’t want someone like you on board.”
Looking back on the season, Sandy made it clear that she would give most of the crew a second chance if necessary.
“There are times when people are in that mode psychologically. I think Kyle probably regrets it. I’m sure Kyle regrets it a lot and I think he admitted it on social media,” Sandy shared exclusively We weekly earlier this month. “That’s what I love about Kyle, that he owns it after he does it. If only he could prevent it [though] because it has no filter. Sometimes you can think things, but just don’t use those words because it does affect other lives.
Sandy went on to say that she “would like to work with” Kyle again in the future.
“It’s about giving people opportunities to change. How do you know if people want to change? You give them a chance to show you that they are going to change,” she noted. “Why would they change if no one gives them the chance? Of course I would give them all the chance to show me that they will change.”
Sandy continued, “The reason there’s drama is because when you put people in a small boat room, they’re working non-stop. Then they go out and enjoy themselves, emotions come out. So when you drink alcohol you no longer have a filter and it just comes out and sometimes it’s, ‘Oops, I wish I could take that back.’ I’m sure a lot of them think so.”
Below deck Mediterranean airs on Bravo Mondays at 9pm ET.
