Brides are shamed for the worst-behaved wedding guests they've encountered: 'My mother-in-law's best friend wore all white to put me down':

There's so much time, expense and planning that goes into a wedding that most brides and grooms at least expect their guests to behave well in return – but sometimes that's wishful thinking.

People have gone to the Wedding Shaming Thread on Reddit to share some of their most unhinged wedding guest experiences, from drunken antics to flouting the dress code.

A recent bride started the post on the US site by explaining some of the complaints from her wedding guests, including one of her mother-in-law's best friends who showed up in all white.

'Like pure white. Head to toe. Even the shoes,” she explained.

“Look, normally I think it's ridiculous to care about a middle-aged woman's wardrobe, but since wearing white to a wedding is such a well-known mistake, I wonder if she was trying to put me down. '

Another problem she had was that guests ignored the formal dress code, with one of them even wearing UGG boots.

She said: 'I had a formal winter wedding. All guests saw the dress code on the invitation. My aunt showed up wearing Uggs. UGGS! Many people wore light wash jeans and casual sweaters, including the photographer who knew the dress code.”

But that wasn't all, as attendees also ignored her request not to use phones.

“I had an unplugged ceremony, announcement and everything, and people were still pulling out their phones. This one makes my blood boil.”

Fellow commenters on the platform rushed to share their own horror stories of bad guest behavior.

“My bridesmaid's friend drank eight martinis and threw up in the ladies' room,” one person recalled.

Another chimed in: “My own mother interrupted my vows. Sometimes I still hear her “Listen!” call. while I fall asleep.”

People in casual clothes were also a problem for another bride, who was shocked when a guest and one showed up in denim capris and slippers.

She wrote, “I got married at 7pm on a Saturday night in February (in Oregon), so I assumed people would dress up a bit since it was evening.

“I live in rural New England and have now been to several weddings where guests wore football jerseys.”

Another added a lighthearted touch with a joke about a young member of the party.

'One of my wedding guests was an asset I had never met before. “I introduced myself to him, reached out my hand to shake his, and he put his hand in his mouth, sucked on it, pulled it out and shook my hand, leaving it dripping with spit,” she wrote.

“I should mention that he was a six-month-old baby and his transgression was completely forgiven because he was so cute.”
