Brit, 32, can’t eat or talk after broken scooter in Thailand… leaving her with a £7,000 bill because of the BIKE she chose
A WOMAN who suffered horrific injuries in a moped accident in Thailand is now facing huge medical bills without help from her insurance.
While riding her scooter in Phuket, boxer Anna Kormošová was hit “head-on” by another bicycle, leaving her unable to eat or talk with “24 stitches, a broken nose and severe facial fractures”.
Anna appeared in a video about her Instagram story in the early hours of Thursday morning, sitting in a hospital bed with bandages on her nose and forehead.
Her eyes were swollen, her cheeks were bruised and there was blood on her shirt. She was holding a stuffed animal pink toys as she spoke.
Through tears, Anna said: “I’m not sure if you can hear me because I can’t talk much, but I just want to thank you for every donation, message, everyone who visits me, everyone who helps me.
“I really appreciate it, thank you so much, guys.”

She said an operation was scheduled for that afternoon, adding: “Let’s hope everything goes smoothly.”
The boxer wrote in a caption on the video: “After my surgery I won’t be able to talk or eat for a month so please withhold my voice.”
An update came via her Instagram on Thursday afternoon.
Anna shared a photo of her face where stitches were clearly visible near her eyes and on her nose.
She said: “The operation is done. It’s very painful, but it’s done.
“1 month of liquid diet and no talking, here we come, the road to recovery.”
Anna is originally from the Czech Republic but lived in Britain before going to Thailand.
She is now said to be facing an extended stay of more than two months as it is not safe for her to fly, meaning she will not be able to work or see her family – or receive medical treatment at home – for a while .
Her friend, boxer Christina Pheadona, said Anna had been through a “harrowing ordeal” made worse by her. insurance nightmare.
Anna’s driver’s license allows Anna to drive a 50cc moped, but in Thailand she could only rent one with a 150cc moped.
As a result, her insurance reportedly refused to pay for medical care after the accident.
She is now buried under a £7,000 bill for crucial surgery to repair her broken jaw.
“Despite depleting her savings, Anna has bravely managed to cover half the costs but now finds herself in a desperate plea for help,” Christina wrote on one GoFundMe page.
Thai driving rules for renting scooters
Renting a motorbike is the cheapest and easiest way to explore Thailand, but there are some important things you should know before you set off.
- You need an international motorcycle license or a Thai motorcycle license. Motorcycle rental companies rarely ask for it, but riding without a motorcycle is illegal, which can bring fines and insurance issues if you’re caught.
- Both the driver and passenger are required to wear a helmet.
- Travel or health insurance is recommended. If you sustain serious injuries, you may incur high costs for medical care and transportation. Make sure you obey the traffic rules and make sure you have a valid driver’s license, otherwise your insurance may be invalid.
- Get used to the Thai driving style before you start driving yourself.
Christina has one Go finance me page for her injured friend, who she says “cannot speak or actively seek help.”
Both women have experience in Muay Thai, or Thai boxing.
Christina described her friend and fellow athlete as “a vibrant soul with a passion for life and a love for Muay Thai.”
She thanked Anna’s supporters in a post to her own Instagram Story on Thursday afternoon, after they managed to raise more than half of their £7,000 target in just 24 hours.
She said: “Thank you again, it is so amazing and overwhelming to see how much help has been given.
“I know Anna will be so grateful and humbled by the love and quick response from all her friends and loved ones.”
