A BAND of heavy rain will drench Britain but forecasters say warmer temperatures are on the way.

The With office said Britons were likely to wake up to a generally wet and windy morning – with outbreaks of downpours.

But it said the mercury was likely to rise into the low to mid teens in parts of the north, and upper teens in southern areas later this week.

It said London was likely to enjoy 13 degrees Celsius tomorrow, before rising to 16 degrees Celsius on Thursday and Friday, reaching 17 degrees on Wednesday.

The Met said Edinburgh will see 11 degrees Celsius over the next three days, before climbing to 14 degrees Celsius on Friday.

It’s in stark contrast to last week, when snow-covered parts of Britain.

Forecasters said of today: “Rain will spread across Britain this morning and become heavy at times.

“Heavy rain will gradually clear in the east, creating a drier and cloudier afternoon, although light outbreaks of rain are still possible. It will become windy in the west.”

The Met Office said rain would continue to fall in the north tomorrow, but drier conditions would begin to prevail England And Wales.

Forecasters say: “Rain will continue this week, especially in the west where it will be heavy at times.

‘Some fine and dry weather sometimes in the southeast. It will become milder during the week.”

However, the Met said Brits should make the most of the calmer weather as thunderstorms are possible this weekend.

Forecasters said conditions would be “generally unsettled” but mild.

They said: “After a relatively clear start, cloud and rain are likely to increase from the west and south-west on Saturday, with rain spreading to all areas by late evening.

“This likely clearing overnight sets the stage for a more rainy day on Sunday, some of which could potentially be heavy, especially in the west.

“Into the new week, temperatures will fall towards just above average for the time of year, while the largely unsettled pattern continues with some brighter breaks interspersed with periods of rain, heaviest in western areas, driest in the south and East.”

The Met added that there could be isolated showers, “with a risk of thunderstorms, particularly in the south”.
