A major music festival has been canceled just days before it was due to start, with the organizer blaming the cost of living crisis.

Coastal Jam organizers announced on January 13 that the event will not take place on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

Event organizer Adam Metwally said the shock decision had not been taken lightly and announced on Instagram on Friday that the festival had been cancelled.

“Everyone I know has felt the pain of the cost of living crisis and one of the consequences of this has been the much slower than usual and last-minute sales of boutique events like Coastal Jam,” he said.

‘(Music fans) now only have enough money for a few things, which of course leads to the big festivals, with big international tours being the priority, which I completely understand.

“Unfortunately, this has meant that smaller boutique festivals and events like ours have fallen by the wayside.”

Mr Metwally said he was doing everything he could to keep ticket prices as low as possible, but said this was not enough to keep the festival going.

“I’m sorry I let people down,” he said.

The popular festival with live and electronic music started in 2017.

The event was held in several picturesque towns and regions including Geelong, Warnambool and Torquay.

This year’s event was expected to be attended by as many as 5,000 partygoers, with acclaimed Australian artists and bands including DICE, Mathilde Anne and Sunday Honey.

International artists including American rapper Bryce Vine and hip-hop producer Austin Millz.

Ticket holders can receive a full refund or use the ticket for another event.

Dozens of users have commented on posts uploaded to Coastal Jam’s Facebook and Instagram pages offering messages of support for Mr Metwally.

‘You’ll be right back. Can’t wait to party with you again next year,” one user wrote.

“You’ve been crushing it for years with coastal jam, you’ll come back bigger and better,” said another.

‘Next time you’ll come back bigger and better.’

More to come.
