The letter, from “100 Castle Lane, Fairyland”, began: “I apologize for the delay in collecting your teeth.

“As you get older and older, you have fewer and fewer baby teeth to lose, so I’m sure they are all important to you.

“Now, having said that, I have to be honest.

“The condition of your room prevented our pickup at midnight.”

The letter, continued, revealed that there had been several attempts to retrieve the teeth, but that these had ultimately been unsuccessful.

“The first attempt almost resulted in tragedy when one of our officer’s shoes got stuck on something nasty on the floor,” it continued.

“As she tried to free herself, a pile of socks fell over, nearly suffocating her.

“All the commotion alerted a large yellow dog and our agent had to abort the mission.

‘Attempt number two was even worse: our officer stumbled upon entry and sprained her left dorsal wing.

“Luckily the big yellow dog was snoring and didn’t hear the fall.”

The letter then stated that the fairy was “forced to perform a very rare collection during the day.”

“Since it is the nature of tooth fairies to operate at night (the moonlight sustains us), diurnal tooth fairies (during the day) are a grumpy species and protest most tasks,” it continued.

The letter then concluded: ‘We hope that this exchange can be carried out in the usual manner the next time you need to have teeth removed.

“We also know that you have a choice when it comes to tooth disposal and we appreciate the opportunity to meet this need.”

The father later spoke to Newsweek and explained how he came up with the idea to send the letter.

“We forgot to play the role of the tooth fairy and when she woke up in the morning, she was disappointed.

“Since we had been trying to get her to clean her room for quite some time, this provided an opportunity to teach a lesson in a light-hearted way.”

However, in the comments on the Reddit post, people were divided on whether the idea was a good one or not.

“A+ parenting here,” one person wrote.

“Omg, I can’t stop laughing. This is brilliant,” another added.

Thirdly praised: “This is fantastic!!

“I have a messy child who immediately forgot to pull out the last tooth.

“She had to remind me to remind the tooth fairy… I’m going to use my own version of this on the next one, thanks for the idea!”

“What a clever way to encourage your daughter to keep her room clean,” someone else commented.

“Make sure you thank the tooth fairies for their cooperation.”

But others were less convinced.

“Interesting way to try to manipulate your kids and lie to them into doing what you want,” one person raged.

“I’m of the radical opinion that not everything has to be a transaction or a life lesson,” said another.

“Let your daughter have something special, without adding shame and guilt to the mix.”

“This gives me so much manipulation,” a third insisted.

“Sorry, but it didn’t make me laugh and I thought it was kind of gross,” another admitted.
