Disney+ recently released the first trailer for their new blockbuster Australian original series The cunning evader.

The show premieres on November 29 on the streaming giant and is a spin-off of the classic Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist.

It follows the adventures of one-time teenage thief Jack Dawkins, also known as ‘The Artful Dodger’, 15 years after the story of Dickens’ novel ended.

The trailer introduces Jack (Brodie-Sangster) as a popular surgeon who practices in the Port Victory colony.

One scene shows a possible romance developing between Jack and the wealthy Lady Belle Fox (Maia Mitchell), who also seems to be a bit of a troublemaker.

Also featured in the trailer is David Thewlis who plays Fagin, the former London gang leader of The Dodger.

At one point, Jack says he must pay a year’s salary to one of his enemies or else his hand will be cut off.

Also appearing in the cast are Once Upon a time in Hollywood Aussie actor Damon Herriman, Top End Wedding’s Miranda Tapsell and comedian and singer Tim Minchin, star of Foxtel’s Upright.

Wentworth star Susie Porter also stars, alongside fan favorite Kym Gyngell (Black Snow), Jack Irish star Damien Garvey and Jessica De Gouw.
