A delivery driver has revealed a hack to prevent a car's windscreen from freezing – using a bottle of vodka.

Jack Mentiply, 26, from Albrough, Scotland, believes he has found the perfect solution to icy car windows in the winter months.

He says it saves him between five and 10 minutes on his rounds.

The delivery person claims that a spray of the vodka on a car's windscreen and 'a few dashes' in the windshield washer filler will prevent it from freezing.

Jack shared a video demonstrating the simple hack – and claims any 'cheap' bottle of spirits will work just as well.

A TikTok video he made showing the hack earned him a whopping 1.8 views

Discussing the hack, he said he “thought it was a more well-known trick to be honest,” and it's something he's been doing since he started driving.

He is seen pouring the vodka over his windscreen and then filling his washer fluid with the remainder of the £7.99 bottle of drink.

In the video, Jack explains how alcohol 'doesn't freeze' and thus prevents ice from forming.

Jack said, “I honestly thought it was a more famous trick.

'It's something I've known for a long time, and I've been doing it since I started driving.

“I was doing this outside the day before I put the original video on, and my neighbor asked me what I was doing.

“Vodka is what I've always used.

“It's very strong, so I thought this would be the best type of alcohol to use.”

After sharing the video on his TikTok, it received more than 1.8 million views from bewildered road users.

However, he pointed out in the clip that alcohol does not freeze

In his video, Jack said he believed de-icer is 'c***' – and that 'we all know alcohol doesn't freeze' – making it a solid alternative

Jack followed up with a bonus hack: He shows how to make a vodka screen spray so you don't have to pour it straight away.

He said, “If you buy a spray bottle and put the top part on the vodka bottle, it will last longer.”

Jack said he had previously used a store-bought screen defroster, but found it much less effective.

He suggested that timing is critical and affects how well it works. He recommends drivers do this before going to sleep.

He said, “If you go out at night and put it on your windshield, it's much more effective.”
