And former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker has revealed the hilarious initiation process new star Ncuti Gatwa had to endure as viewers await his debut in a special episode on Christmas Day.
The actress, who played the time traveler from 2017 to 2022, revealed that each Doctor receives a call from their successor so they can find out who will take over the role.
She went on to reveal that showrunner Russell T Davies was the first to share Ncuti’s casting with her, prompting her to send the Sex Education star a slew of excited messages.
Speaking at the Capital Breakfast with Roman, Chris and Sian, Jodie said: “Peter [Capaldi] was told ”the next doctor is going to call you”, and of course unless he removed me…

‘I was already on his phone, he said ‘oh my God’, so then I had that ‘the next doctors are going to call you’.
‘And that was David [Tennant]. So I lost my ”beep”, ”are you beeping me?” ”What are you doing calling me?” So that was my first thing.
“So obviously later, Russell [T Davies] called and said, ‘I have news’, so clearly Ncuti [Gatwa] is the busiest person in the world, and I think he was on 18 different sets at the time, leading up to his announcement, so he got about fifteen nine minute messages from me from Whatsapp, and he was very nice for answers.
‘But I have yet to meet him! But yeah man, he doesn’t need any advice from me, he’s going to destroy it.’
Ncuti will make his debut on Christmas Day as the Fifteenth Doctor in an upcoming special, alongside Millie Gibson, who will play his companion Ruby Sunday.
Fans were treated to a surprising glimpse of the couple as the show celebrated its 60th anniversary with an epic new trailer.
The trailer featured a slew of clips from all 14 Doctors, including David Tennant who has reprized the role for a trio of 60th Anniversary Specials.

Ncuti will make his debut on Christmas Day as the Fifteenth Doctor in an upcoming special, alongside Millie Gibson, who will play his companion Ruby Sunday.
And among the montage was a small clip of a pensive Millie as Ruby, flashing a brief smile as the TARDIS was visible behind her.
Later in the preview, Ncuti was seen in a snowy landscape, hinting at the time-traveling adventures that could be on the horizon.
Fans will see Ncuti and Millie make their full debut on Christmas Day, before heading off in the TARDIS for a new series in spring 2024.
David previously spoke about how Ncuti will take over the role of Doctor in the Christmas special as he supported the actor.
He said: “I have had a glimpse of what Ncuti can do and it is very exciting. He has such great energy, he’s inventive, he’s smart, he’s fast, he’s funny.
“It’s really exciting to have such a brilliant new Doctor on the way and I’ll be glued to every episode.”
