Doctors call it ‘worst thing you can do to your body’: ‘Don’t say we didn’t warn you’

Doctors have named what they say is the “worst” thing someone can do to their body after years in healthcare.

Medical professionals were asked to provide just one answer to the question on Reddit, with answers ranging from remaining standing still for a long period of time while drinking alcohol and smoking a cigarette.

Regarding the latter, one doctor said that of all the deeply unhealthy habits, he could think of none that are as “extremely unhealthy as cigarette smoking.”

Others said leaving chronic conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes untreated is a big mistake, along with ignoring the warning signs of an underlying disease.

Doctors have named what they say is the “worst” thing someone can do to their body after years in healthcare

1) Do ‘nothing’

‘If you stand still with your body, you literally die. Move. Go walk. Bend your knees. Stretch,” one doctor wrote.

‘Sports and exercise have solved so many problems in such a short time. The old ‘sunshine and walks’ may be cliché and annoying to hear, but they haven’t prescribed it for centuries without reason.

“You really need to smell the after-rain scent and see the leaves moving to have a better day.” And you can do it, everyone thinks they can’t do it when they’re in such bad shape, but there are always ways to refresh your body.’

A sedentary lifestyle can cause digestive problems, poor circulation, poor mental health and loss of bone mass.

2) Alcohol consumption

Long-term alcohol consumption can cause cirrhosis and eventually liver failure – which is “one of the worst deaths I can imagine”, said one doctor.

“It’s long and slow as you think about the consequences of your actions while you go crazy and/or bleed to death.”

‘I have seen so many patients with alcoholic cirrhosis die. “It was devastating to see the looks on their faces when they realized that even though they didn’t feel sick when they were admitted, they weren’t going to leave the hospital alive and there was nothing we could do to reverse this,” he added. a nurse added.

Another wrote: ‘Alcohol and smoking. No question.’

According to Australia Wide First Aid, a sedentary lifestyle can cause digestive problems, poor circulation, poor mental health and loss of bone mass.

3) Ignoring the signs that something is wrong

While some diseases are silent killers, many are often attracted by noticeable warning signs that require immediate attention.

A doctor revealed that knowing when to seek medical help was essential.

“Never ignore a clear, concise and increasing signal that something is going wrong,” he said.

‘Do you have a strange pain in your stomach? Okay, it could be anything, don’t worry. You have a new pain, which remains the same or keeps getting worse, and after a long period of time the pain is still clearly there? Then go get checked.’

4) Smoking

A dentist said: ‘Smoking leads to poor oral health and oral cancer. Poor oral health can lead to blood infections, endocarditis, cardiovascular disease, pneumonia and pregnancy complications. Just stop smoking. And yes, that also includes the green.’

‘Lung cancer is the least of your worries. Smoking destroys arteries. I do cardiac and vascular anesthesia and every day is a parade of failing hearts, amputations, disgusting arterial leg bypasses, non-healing leg ulcers,” wrote another.

A doctor added: ‘It’s not a secret. Smoking is responsible for the highest number of preventable deaths.

‘Moreover, it also reduces your quality of life enormously. It increases your risk for a host of diseases and complicates many, many others. Apart from lung cancer, it increases the risk of cancers of the cervix, colon, skin, esophagus, larynx, liver, mouth and throat, pancreas, stomach and leukemia.

“So while there are many habits that are very unhealthy, I can’t think of any that are as particularly unhealthy as smoking cigarettes.”

5) Untreated chronic diseases

Several doctors and nurses said that leaving chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol untreated can cause fatal complications.

‘Diabetes is a gateway to some of the worst things you can experience. From meat rotting and dying to falling into a coma, anything is possible,” one person said.

‘Untreated high blood pressure and diabetes. Oh and cocaine/crack, the coronary vasospasm will negatively impact your heart,” said another.

Obesity was mentioned by another.

‘It is a chronic inflammatory state: a risk of venous thromboembolism, a risk of malignancy, a risk of obesity, hypoventilation syndrome and sleep apnea, and the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.’ he said.

6) Being in constant contact with carcinogens

Carcinogens are substances (such as foods or high-energy light) that directly change your DNA or cause your DNA to be changed.

The mutations can sometimes cause cells to become cancerous, and although the human body has systems in place to repair DNA damage, the processes are not always successful.

Carcinogenic activities include sunbathing, bleach, air fresheners, eating burnt food, inhaling mold, asbestos and more.

“When you dump all those chemicals into your blood… the blood puts those carcinogens/chemicals everywhere. It increases the risk of pancreatic, kidney, bladder and a host of other cancers,” said a doctor.
