easyJet tells the couple to fly to Scotland from Bristol via ALICANTE

A few holidaymakers are baffled after easyJet told them they would have to fly to Bristol and then back to Spain if they wanted to eventually return to Scotland.

Carly Wilkinson, 22, and her partner, Reece Pollock, 23, had just enjoyed a relaxing week in Majorca when they were shown the confusing route home.

easyJet offered the couple a flight from Palma, Majorca, to Bristol, where they would then have to return on their own and fly to Alicante in Spain. Only from there could the couple fly back to Glasgow.

But to discover the 27-hour travel nightmare, the pair were sitting at Palma airport waiting for what should have been a two-and-a-half hour easyJet flight back to Scotland when they received a text saying it had been cancelled.

In an attempt to work out how to get back home, airline staff told them they could spend an extra £600 to fly on an alternative airline or wait 11 hours for a route via Bristol.

“They said we could pay £600 for flights on another airline and when I asked what if people couldn’t afford that, the staff just shrugged,” said Wilkinson, reflecting on their first cancellation in Parma, LadBible reported.

“I arranged a flight home via Bristol via their app, but we had to wait at the airport until 2pm.”

Thinking they would be home soon after a short connecting flight to Glasgow, the couple soon received a text message after landing in the West Country that their onward flight had also been cancelled.

It was at this point that the couple was hit with the most baffling news.

“They said they could fly us back to Glasgow, but then we would have to go via Alicante in Spain, where we just came from,” said Wilkinson.

“We couldn’t believe it – we had been on the road for hours and just wanted to get home. We didn’t want to get stranded in Alicante.’

The two immediately rejected the idea and easyJet agreed to pay for a six-hour 400-mile (645 km) taxi ride back home, along with eight other passengers left stunned by the same proposal.

“There were 10 of us in the same situation, so we stuck together and eventually easyJet agreed to send us back to Glasgow by taxi,” Wilkinson explains, according to the publication.

Wilkinson said she had a great holiday with her partner, but it was “totally ruined by the disaster we had when we got home.” She added: ‘We slept on the floor in the airport’

The two should have had a relatively easy route home, with a two and a half hour flight home.

Instead, they spent the same amount of time as flying to Australia, with extra time to spare.

Wilkinson and Pollock said they paid £1,500 for a seven-night package holiday to Majorca with travel agency On The Beach. They said they had also contacted easyJet over the chaotic operation.

‘After the longest journey home we had to pay another £50 for a taxi back to Balloch to collect my car. We slept on the floor at the airport and easyJet didn’t offer us food vouchers’ LadBible Wilkinson reported.

She said the airline has since spent the couple £100 in expenses.

An easyJet spokesperson told the publication: ‘We have made every effort to minimize the impact of the disruption. They transferred to an alternative flight to Bristol where we arranged a car transfer to Glasgow as their onward flight was also canceled due to air traffic control restrictions.

“We understand the difficulty this will have caused and we are contacting the couple to apologize for their experience and reimburse them for their expenses.”
