Emma Stone Reveals How Bad She Wants to Compete on Jeopardy – NOT Celebrity Jeopardy: ‘I Want to Earn My Stripes’

Emma Stone is busy with yet another awards season cover for her performance in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things… but she’d rather compete in a completely different way: on Jeopardy.

The 35-year-old actress recently appeared on Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast, where she opened up about her desire to compete on the long-running game show.

The interview comes after the La La Land star opened up about who her favorite Spice Girl was in another lengthy interview.

Stone insisted that she wants to appear on a regular episode of Jeopardy, and not the long-running Celebrity Jeopardy edition.

‘I apply every year in June. I don’t want to continue with Celebrity Jeopardy. I want to earn my stripes,” Stone admitted.

“You can only take the test once a year with your email address, and I’ve never been on the show,” she added.

‘I watch it every evening and note how many answers I get right. I swear, I could go on Jeopardy,” Stone insisted.

Stone plays Bella Baxter in Poor Things, a young woman who is brought back to life by a brilliant and bizarre scientist (Willem Dafoe).

She decides to use her second life to explore the world, where she falls in love with lawyer Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo).

She earned an Oscar nod for her previous collaboration with Lanthimos – 2018’s The Favorite – and it’s likely she’ll earn her fourth nod for Poor Things.

Because she also produced the film, she has a chance to become only the second woman ever to earn nominations for both producing and acting in the same year, after Frances McDormand for Best Picture Nomadland 2020.

She also talked about the finale of the movie she filmed with Christopher Abbott, which she did without her contacts, despite being so blind (“negative 1,000 subscription”) that she “four times of legally not being able to see.”

“I took out my contact lenses to try out that scene with Chris, who is sitting at the end of an extremely long table,” Stone said.

“So during those scenes, I actually couldn’t see him for a lot of the time, which is pretty amazing,” she admitted.

‘I felt like I was in some kind of hallucination fever dream, where a blob at the end of the table was talking to me. It was quite effective,” she said.

She is gearing up to return as the title villain in a sequel to Cruella, which is in pre-production.

Stone will also team up with Lanthimos again for a third time in his new film Kinds of Kindness, alongside Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley and Hong Chau.

‘It’s a kind of triptych film. It is an anthology, with three short films, with a total of seven actors, and in each story we each play a different character,” she said.
