Evans Head trunk horror: Dramatic twist as man is arrested after woman’s body is found in the back of a vehicle

A man has been arrested after detectives found the body of a 60-year-old woman in the trunk of a car after police were called for a welfare check.

Officers discovered the body in the vehicle parked on Park Street in Evans Head, on the New South Wales north coast, at around 8.10am on Friday.

Police were called to an apartment after concerns were raised about the welfare of one of the residents.

Officers then found the body of the woman, believed to be in her 60s, in the trunk of the car.

A 39-year-old man, believed to be the woman’s son, was arrested and taken to Ballina Police Station.

He is currently assisting detectives with their investigation.

According to police sources, the woman had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Officers said the woman was killed inside the unit before her body was later moved and dumped in the boot of the car.

Earlier detectives had taped off a white Volkswagen Golf hatchback while forensic officers carried out searches of the area.

Officers have established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

A visitor staying at a holiday park behind the woman’s property said he saw the hatchback drive into the house last night, according to reports from the Daily Telegraph.

Another visitor said they saw a man in handcuffs led into a police car just before 8 a.m.
