Former Railway Board chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti appointed new TRAI chief

New Delhi: Anil Kumar Lahoti, former chairman of the Railway Board, has been appointed as the new TRAI chief. A 1984 batch officer of Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), Shri Lahoti has an illustrious career with extensive experience in railway management and administration. Lahoti belongs to the Indian Railways Service of Engineers, batch 1984 and has been appointed as a member of the first panel of the Indian Railways Management Service for level 17.”

Educational background of Anil Kumar Lahoti

He graduated in Civil Engineering with a gold medal from Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Gwalior and obtained his Masters of Engineering (Structures) from University of Roorkee (IIT, Roorkee). During his career in the railways spanning over 36 years, he has worked in various capacities at the Central, Northern, North Central, Western and West Central Railways and at Railway Board.

Anil Kumar Lahoti's role in railways

As Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) and Chief Engineer (Construction) at Northern Railway, he carried out a large number of infrastructure projects including new lines, double and multi-track, railway yard redevelopment, major bridges, station construction, etc.

The Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi and the iconic Ajmeri Gate branch building of New Delhi station were planned and built by him. He was also deeply involved in the planning for the redevelopment of New Delhi station into a world-class station, including the commercial development of land and airspace.

Training in strategic management and leadership programs

Shri Lahoti has received training in strategic management and leadership programs from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA; the Bocconi School of Management, Milan, Italy; and the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.

He has conducted research into station development in Hong Kong, Japan, Great Britain, Germany and Switzerland, including commercial rail site development. He has also visited various countries in connection with developments in the field of railway technology and track maintenance machines.
