Fans stunned by 'worst miss ever seen' as commentator mocks star's horror blunder

FANS have been left stunned by Patrick Wood's miss of the season.

Sydney were 3-0 up and cruising against the Central Coast Mariners when the Australian striker had the perfect opportunity to score.

Goalkeeper Danny Vukovic took a poor first touch and was immediately closed down by Wood.

He was able to poke the ball past the number 1 and leave him with an open goal just three yards away.

But Wood somehow sent his shot from close range wide of the post.

The 21-year-old looked embarrassed as he stood still with his head in his hands.

And his horror blunder was only made worse by the commentators, who rubbed salt into the wounds as they shouted: 'Oh, what a miss.

'Anything can and will happen, because you will never see that happen again.

“That's the most astonishing miss.

'Poor old Pat Wood, he must have wished the ground would swallow him up.

“As they say on social media: 'peak A-League'.”

Fans also couldn't believe he squandered the chance, with one saying: “Easily the worst miss I've ever seen on a football pitch.”

Another added: “I don't often say I could do better than a professional player, but this time I could.”

A third commented: “This could be the most embarrassing miss ever.”

Wood's day didn't get much better as he was subbed off for Robert Mak after 61 minutes.

However, Sydney sealed all three points with a 3-1 win.
