A pedestrian is left fighting for his life after being hit by a bus while crossing a major street in the city’s CBD.

The 21-year-old woman was hit while crossing busy Adelaide Street in Brisbane just before 3pm on Thursday.

She was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with serious injuries.

Motorists were diverted with closures on Adelaide Street between Edward and Creek streets well into the afternoon.

Several Translink stops along the way were also closed but reopened later in the day.

A 61-year-old woman, the driver of the bus, was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
