Train Driver Reveals How He Rescued A Terrified Pug Lost Near Railway Tracks – Made Her Eat Crumpets In His Taxi Before Reuniting The Pet With Her VERY Relieved Owners

A freight train driver who rescued a stray pug he spotted dangerously close to a railroad track has reunited the frightened animal with her owners.

Poppy the pug was running away from her home in Rutland when she was scared off by a speeding car. Her owners Dawn and Ian Bain said they had been looking for her all night.

The next morning, eagle-eyed engineer Michael Jones saw Poppy hiding in a hedge next to the track and was able to get out to pick her up.

Mr Jones then put Poppy in his taxi and let her eat crumpets on his knee while he rode his train, he revealed.

Dawn said, “God knows how he saw her. He took her home and he and his wife Julia took care of her all night.

“Julia then called the vets in Oakham to see if anyone had reported her missing – and I had.

And then this morning Michael brought her back to Oakham on his next trip. “What wonderful people, what wonderful human kindness. There are no words to express our gratitude.’

Jones said he found Poppy near the Langham Junction junction, more than a mile from Northgate in Oakham, where she went missing.

He moved slowly as a flash of red from her armor caught his attention.

“Suddenly there was just a little face that just looked at me,” he said.

He then stopped the train and jumped out of the cab to find the dog as she looked so lonely and trembling.

Mr. Jones then carried Poppy back to his train, where she spent about 20 minutes in the taxi with him.

He also fed her crumpets and offered her water.

Around the same time Mrs Bain, 60, went to Oakham signal box to ask if anyone had seen her dog.

After agreeing to drop off the dog, Mrs. Bains waited on a platform for Mr. Jones to drop the dog off.

This was at Oakham station, where Mr Jones had been given special permission to stop and return the dog to her.

She said, “This train is coming with this beautiful man on it, with Poppy on his knee.

“I cried, en masse, and he cried.”

Poppy is now recovering from the ordeal at home with her companion Tinker.

She also has no injuries – except for a bloodshot eye.

Jones added, “I do believe that if I hadn’t seen her, she never would have been found.”

“Where she was no one searches for any reason.”

Mrs. Bain said she was very grateful that Mr. Jones had been so attentive and kind enough to stop and save Poppy.

Local residents and animal lovers have praised the train driver’s good will.

One said, “Great news. Restores your trust in people’, while another said: “I hope Network Rail gives this man the credit he and his wife deserve.”
