Following in the footsteps of the future Queen of Spain, Princess Leonor, Norwegian Princess Ingrid Alexandra was spotted beginning her military training.

The Norwegian royal daughter of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit was snapped at the Engineer Battalion in Øverbygd, according to outlet NRK.

Princess Ingrid Alexander, 19, started her military training this month (January 2024).

It was reported that the princess learned about the different parts of an assault rifle, and how to disassemble and reassemble it, as shown in a video published by NRK.

In a conversation with the battalion commander, they asked the royal family if she regretted her decision to join the Engineer Battalion.

Princess Ingrid Alexander replied: “I don't regret it.”

The battalion commander and Lieutenant Colonel Bjørn Kråkstad told the press that they were happy that the royal family had chosen to train with them.

They said: 'We are very proud that the Princess has chosen the Engineer Battalion.

“We look forward to placing the Princess in a position of service that she can enjoy.”

Furthermore, Lieutenant Colonel Bjørn Kråkstad confirmed: '[We] I didn't take any special measures because the princess came here.'

Company commander Hågen Vangsnes added: '[The Princess] have to wash the floor, quiet the room, make the bed and attend classes [like everyone else].'

He added: “We have the same expectations of her as all other soldiers.”

Ingrid will serve a year in the Engineer Battalion of Brigade Nord and will go to the Skjold camp in Indre Troms.

After the recruitment period, the Royal House confirms that she will 'be assigned a service position'.

She will undergo a professional period complete with specific education, departmental training and practical exercises.

Ingrid Alexandra is second in line to the throne, after her father, Crown Prince Haakon.

She is the daughter of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and granddaughter of the current ruler, King Harald V of Norway.

Ingrid Alexandra becomes Norway's second female monarch after her father secured her place in the line of succession by changing the law to allow first-born daughters to ascend the throne over their younger male siblings.

The last Norwegian queen was 600 years ago: Queen Margaret ruled Norway, Denmark and Sweden from the late 1380s until her death in 1412.

Ingrid has a younger brother, Prince Sverre Magnus, and an older half-brother, Marius Borg Høiby, Mette-Marit's son from a previous relationship.

In an attempt by her parents to give her as normal a childhood as possible, Ingrid Alexandra attended the same local primary school as her half-brother.

According to newspaper reports, the princess would walk to school with Marius and school officials hoped to make it a place where she could make friends and enjoy some relief from public scrutiny.

She was later transferred to a private international school in Oslo so that she could speak English fluently and was transferred to two more schools during her education.

The princess turned 18 in early 2022 and accompanied her grandfather, King Harald V, on the day before a cabinet meeting at the Royal Palace to mark her coming of age.

In the coming years, she will increase her public profile and take on more responsibilities on behalf of the royal family, but she will continue to focus on her education, the palace said in a statement on her 18th birthday.

In addition to her royal duties, Ingrid Alexandra enjoys skiing, boxing and surfing and won a gold medal at the Norwegian Junior Surfing Championship in October 2020.
