Following Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’s world premiere in Rome on Monday, critics and fans who got a chance to see the film early shared mostly favorable reviews on social media.

The film, which follows 2018’s Fallout, was delayed 90 minutes from its premiere after Cruise, 60, had an unscheduled meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Variety reported.

That apparently frustrated the public, who reportedly grew tired of replaying footage from red carpet interviews at the Auditorium della Conciliazione over and over.

However, the audience changed its tune with “warm applause” after the man of the hour finally arrived, along with his director and longtime collaborator Christopher McQuarrie.

Much of the primary cast also appeared at the premiere, including Cruise’s one-time girlfriend Hayley Atwell and their costars Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Simon Pegg, Pom Kelmentieff, Shea Wigham, and Esai Morales.

Audiences in Rome were reportedly elated when the Eternal City was featured in a scene on screen, with some people at the premiere cheering for Cruise, chanting “Bravo Tom!” at the screen.

The latest Mission: Impossible entry premiered in the iconic Italian city as part of the Rome Film Festival, after a significant portion of the film was shot in the capital.

On Twitter, the first reactions to the film were almost unanimously positive.

Gizmodo and io9 writer Germain Lussier called the new film “fantastic” and said it had a “dynamite, timely story.”

‘Excellent new characters. Huge variety of action and a final set piece that ranks in the all-time top 2-3 for the franchise,” he added.

Erik Davis, of Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes, boasted that he had the “absolute best time” watching Cruise’s new movie.

He added that it was “an impeccably crafted action movie that doesn’t stop entertaining.”

“Each action sequence is long, crazy and intense. The story is big and expansive, but I love how it both felt complete and left you longing for what comes next.”

Film critic Scott Mantz tweeted that Dead Reckoning was “worth the wait!”

He added that it was “absolutely fantastic” and called it the “best” mission “yet” for the series.

“Great story, great cast, incredible action that will keep you on the edge of your seat,” he continued, declaring that Cruise had “awarded himself the BEST ACTION FILM OF THE SUMMER!”

Collider’s Perri Nemiroff called Mission: Impossible 7 “another winner for the franchise.”

“Again, the production value is THROUGH THE ROOF with some of the most well-defined and exciting set pieces shot in ways that really make you feel like you’re in the middle of the action,” she gushed. “The emphasis on capturing things with the camera makes a HUGE difference, and you can feel it.”

Dorian Parks of Geeks of Color opined that Dead Reckoning was “potentially the best installment in the franchise”.

“The set pieces are amazing and the action sequences are really next level. It’s a must-see on the biggest screen available,” he wrote.

Entertainment industry reporter Jeff Sneider praised Qualified, calling Dead Reckoning “VERY good” while complaining that it had less emotional weight than Cruise’s hugely popular sequel Top Gun: Maverick.

Viewers will have a chance to see for themselves when Cruise’s latest blockbuster hits theaters July 12.
