Dozens of celebrities have showered one of Hollywood’s most cherished stars with love and praise after he died in a motorbike crash.

John Travolta, Sharon Stone, Billy Baldwin and Kim Cattrall were among stars to pay tribute to Treat Williams, 71, as ‘smart’ and ‘compassionate’ with a ‘heart of gold’.

It comes after the actor was killed in a crash with a Honda while on his motorbike in a parking lot near his Vermont ranch on Monday.

Travolta, 69, took to Instagram to say Williams would be ‘missed’ while sharing a photo from their time as Broadway co-stars.

And Stone, 65, shared an image of a news headline about his death on her Instagram story, adding: ‘Sad news rest in peace brother’.

Backdraft actor Baldwin, 60, also took to Twitter to praise Williams as ‘smart’ and ‘compassionate’ with a ‘heart of gold’.

Father-of-two Williams died in hopsital after he was hit by Honda driver Ryan M. Koss, 35, who signaled left into a parking lot and crashed into the actor around 4.53pm in Dorset on Monday.

No arrests have been made following the crash and an investigation is ongoing, according to Vermont State Police.

Following his death, Barry McPherson, his agent, told People: ‘He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off. I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented.’ 

‘He was an actor’s actor. Filmmakers loved him. He’s been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s.

‘He was really proud of his performance this year. He’s been so happy with the work that I got him. He’s had a balanced career.’

Baldwin shared on Twitter, ‘He had it all. Smart. Talented. Funny. Charming. Successful. Handsome. Compassionate. Heart of gold. And that name… Treat Williams. 

‘He truly and deeply cared about what’s going on here in America and around the world. 

‘Climate change, social justice, freedom, truth, tolerance… love. Beloved by his family, friends, fans, colleagues… his community. A terrible loss. You will be missed. Rest in power Treat.’

Travolta added: ‘Treat Williams and I got our start in NYC appearing in 2 Broadway shows, “Grease” and “Over Here”.

‘I’m so sorry Treat. My thoughts are with you and your family. You will be missed. Love, John’.

Wendell Pierce, who starred in the 2016 HBO TV movie Confirmation with Williams, also added a social media tribute. 

He said: ‘Treat Williams was a passionate, adventurous, creative man. In a short period of time, he quickly befriended me & his adventurous spirit was infectious.

‘We worked on just one film together but occasionally connected over the years. Kind and generous with advice and support. RIP.’

Justine Bateman shared an image from their 1991 play Speed the Plow, along with a heartfelt message.

She said: ‘Working with Treat Williams in Mamet’s “Speed the Plow” at Williamstown in ’91 was the start of great friendship. Damn it, damn it. Treat, you were the best. Love you.’

Actress Marilu Henner also revealed to People that she and Williams, who she met on Broadway early in her career, never lost touch over the years.

Henner starred with Williams in her first ever Broadway show, Over Here, and they bonded from the start.

‘We played two characters who were madly in love. We never stopped kissing the whole show,’ she said.

‘He let me stay at his place in New York when we were starting out. We had done Broadway and the show got canceled before I had another job, and he let me stay in his apartment when he was off doing another gig,’ she said.

‘We never lost touch. We supported each other and we always checked in. He was an extraordinary person. He was so talented. We were a staple in each other’s lives and we were in the Hallmark family. He had great energy and he loved being an actor and he loved his family most of all. And loved his life. This is so painful to all of us who loved him,’ she admitted.

She added he had, ‘a great passion for everything he did. He was so vibrant and funny and a character and so supportive. He loved Vermont. And he was so proud of his kids and his wife. We never lost contact. Never.’

The final show Williams starred in was Netflix drama series Chesapeake Shores which finished its final season last October.
