I lived in a CAVE because I was tired of paying the rent – I didn’t spend a cent for 16 years before a sad twist came

It was in 2009 when Daniel made the drastic decision to give up all his possessions and live in a cave near Moab, Utah.

He led a frugal but completely happy life, living off the food he found in the city’s garbage bins, from traffic victims and from the vegetables growing around his new home.

But in 2016, he had to leave his peaceful cave and return home to care for his parents.

Daniel appeared in an episode of Only people and explained his reasons behind his decision to give up money.

He said: ‘I’ve probably slept in caves longer since the mid-1990s than I’ve lived without money.

“Once I had a respectable job in the city, I decided I didn’t want to pay more and live outside.”

He continues the tour of his cave and shows where his makeshift bed is: a cardboard box and a blanket.

Showing off his “kitchen”, he explains that he eats food he finds in the garbage can because “so much of it gets thrown away” and insists that he has never gotten sick from anything he has fished out of a garbage can.

Daniel claims he did not use or accept any money during that period, nor did he receive any money food stamps or government financing.

Although he admits that he struggled at first, he eventually discovered that he is happier without money.
