Mom is shocked after making a grim discovery in the plastic lunch box her daughter has been using for two years – and some say it’s her fault

A mother is horrified after making a grim discovery in the plastic lunchbox her daughter has been using for the past two years.

Ashleigh Pidgeon, from Far North Queensland, Australia, went viral on TikTok last month after she removed the seal in her daughter’s bento box container.

The mother-of-two began the video by saying the lunch box is “b****y great*” and is still in “perfect condition” despite almost daily use.

But while recently rinsing out the box, Ashleigh came up with the idea of also cleaning the silicone seals that prevent the various compartments from leaking.

Shocked to find it covered in black mould, the mother said, “That’s the state of it.”

Last month, mother-of-two Ashleigh Pidgeon filmed herself washing the lunchbox her daughter has been using for two years

She continued, “I’m going to get another one out and see if they’re all like this.”

After removing one of the larger silicone seals which was covered in mold, Ashleigh couldn’t hide her disgust and exclaimed, “BUT.”

The mother added, “I think the water must be getting in there and could cause mold.”

She then ended the video by urging other parents not to make her mistake and to check their children’s lunchboxes.

The video has been viewed more than 105,000 times since it was uploaded more than two weeks ago, but some viewers weren’t too appreciative of the tip.

One replied, ‘Isn’t this common sense? For airtight leak-proof containers?’

“I always took them out when I cleaned it,” added another.

“Yes, you should clean them regularly,” a third wrote.

Ashleigh hit back at the binoculars and said, “I can see that clearly now!”

Meanwhile, a fourth critic remarked, “This is pretty self-explanatory — but glad you found it.”

Others, however, were grateful for Ashleigh’s video – they never even thought about removing the seals.

“I didn’t even know the seals were off,” said one parent. “See tomorrow as soon as I get home!”

Another reassured Ashleigh, writing, “Don’t worry, I had no idea when I found out I was in shock too.”
