I Want To Name My Unborn Daughter This Boy Inspired By Derry Girls – But People Say My Hormones Have Driven Me Crazy

An expectant mother has revealed the name she wants to give her baby, but people disagree, saying she’s “spiritual.”

The pregnant woman sought urgent advice on the British parenting website Mumsnet as her due date drew closer.

She added that she and her partner had only fathered girls so far, so she preferred a boy name for their unborn daughter.

Perhaps even stranger, the name was inspired by the famous nun and headmistress Sister Michael from the teen sitcom Derry Girls.

The woman admitted that her choice was unusual and wondered if her hormones were making her “mental.”

On British parenting site Mumsnet, a pregnant woman revealed that she was inspired for her baby name by the TV show Derry Girls

She said, “My partner was put on Michael for a boy for this and our last pregnancy, but every time the baby was a girl.

“I’m due soon and we still don’t have a name,” she added.

“I was watching Derry Girls, which has Sister Michael in it, and I was actually starting to think I really like it for a girl.

“Is this just my hormones driving me crazy?”

One person replied, “Yeah, it’s just your hormones and you’d be crazy to name your daughter Michael.” Glad you came to your senses!’

“Don’t,” another person said before asking, “Would you like to be a woman named Michael?”

Another agreed: ‘Don’t! Although it’s a beautiful name, growing up as a girl with a boy’s name is a nightmare.”

Someone else said, “Only if you’re willing to call your son Emily.”

Another person shared a similar experience and said, “I really wouldn’t. My nickname growing up was Michael (long story) and it was so embarrassing when my dad called me that in front of my friends.

“I can’t imagine how it would feel as your real name.”

“Don’t make your kid crazy for it,” said another.

One person suggested alternate names for the woman’s unborn child, writing, “What’s wrong with Michaela? Or Michelle or Misha?’

The news comes as a baby expert warned expectant parents to think twice before naming their children.

Jessica Paquette, 22, urged parents to avoid abbreviated “nicknames” for their children.

She shared a TikTok explaining why popular names like Jake—instead of Jacob—Jessie—instead of Jessica—and Millie—instead of Amelia—are a terrible move by new parents.

“This is kind of strange that you don’t know yet and you make decisions about how society perceives them,” Paquette, of Nashville, Tennessee, said in the clip.

“The first impression is very real, whether we like it or not, and it is desirable, in my opinion, to give them the option of sounding as formal as they like.”

She gave the example of choosing the nickname Millie over Amelia.

Note that Amelia sounds more formal when said during wedding vows and is more pleasant to look at on a resume than when compared to Millie.
