Indian Railways said it has launched an integrated 'Rail Madad' helpline number “139” for all types of queries, complaints and assistance to passengers during travel.

New Delhi: If you travel by train and encounter problems, have no fear! The Indian Railways has launched a toll-free number where you can file your complaint. If you get into an argument or encounter other problems during your trip, you can seek help or file a complaint.

Indian Railways said it has launched an integrated 'Rail Madad' helpline number '139' for all types of queries, complaints and assistance to passengers during travel.

“To overcome the inconvenience of multiple helpline numbers for complaints and queries during train journeys, Indian Railway has integrated all railway helplines into one number 139 (Rail Madad Helpline) for quick redressal of complaints and inquiries during the journey,” the Indian Railways said.

If you need any assistance while traveling by train, you can call the Indian Railway helpline number 139. This number is toll-free and you can use it to register your complaint.

Interestingly, the Indian Railways toll-free number 139 offers a variety of services: in addition to calling, you can also send SMS (messages) to this number.

In addition to reporting complaints, you can also contact this number for information about safety, medical emergencies, train accidents, other train-related complaints, general complaints or vigilance. You will also find information about the status of your complaint on this number.

However, the Indian Railways has clarified that several helplines for railway complaints were discontinued last year and helpline No. 182 would also be discontinued from April 1, 2021 and merged into 139.

Significantly, the helpline number 139 is available in 12 Indian languages. Passengers can choose IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System), or connect directly to the call center manager by pressing * (asterisk).

Indian Railways shared an overview of the menu of 139 Helpline number:

  • For safety and medical assistance, the passenger must press 1, which will immediately connect to a call center manager.
  • For information, the passenger has to press 2 and from the sub-menu, information about PNR status, train arrival/departure, accommodation, fare inquiry, ticket booking, system ticket cancellation, wake-up alarm facility/destination alert, wheelchair booking, meal booking can be obtained.
  • For general complaints, the passenger must press 4
  • For complaints about alertness, the passenger must press 5
  • For package and goods related questions, the passenger must press 6
  • For queries regarding IRCTC trains, the passenger has to press 7
  • For the status of complaints, the passenger must press 9
  • To talk to the call center manager, the passenger must press *(asterisk).
