Tornadoes hit Indiana City and destroy buildings

Several tornadoes have been reported in Indiana on Sunday, destroying buildings and trapping people as high winds and tennis ball-sized hail battered the town of Greenwood and other towns in the southern part of the state, authorities said.

A Martin County official said emergency services were looking for victims and were removing trees from the roads. “It’s all happening at once now,” Monty Wolf, the director of the county’s emergency response team, said by phone.

Clips posted on social media appeared to show a tornado tearing through the town of Greenwood, Ind., throwing debris into the air. A city police coordinator said officials were still evaluating the damage.

As of Sunday evening, tornado warnings and watches remained in effect for several counties across the state.
