Jane Fonda draped her knockout figure in a white pantsuit Saturday to pick up an award named after her boyfriend Harry Belafonte at the Tribeca Film Festival.

The 85-year-old, whose activism during the Vietnam War earned her the nickname “Hanoi Jane,” was glowing as she stepped onto the red carpet.

Alicia Keys presented her with the Harry Belafonte Voices For Social Justice Award that night and Robin Roberts interviewed her on stage.

In a dazzling, star-studded group photo, Jane, Robin and Alicia all gathered on the red carpet and treated the camera to their winning smiles.

Harry, who died in April at the age of 96, had a brilliant singing career but also attracted international attention as an activist, throwing himself behind causes such as civil rights in America and the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa.

While collecting her award that night, Jane made a joke about Rupert Murdoch’s son, James, taking over Tribeca Enterprises in 2019.

Let’s hear it for Tribeca Film Festival. For giving opportunities to women and people of color in the film industry and youth,” she said deadline. “I am so grateful to the Tribeca. I can’t believe a Murdoch owns it.’

She added, “Harry devoted himself to the civil rights movement and when they needed anything – if they needed anything, he was sure to get it for them.” He used his platform the way celebrities should.”

Jane’s on-stage remarks had a lot to do with climate change, which has become a particular cause célèbre of hers, to the point that she’s busted multiple headlines in recent years while protesting in Washington, DC.

“Those of us who are living in this decade now, it’s up to us (to change something), because when we go, it will be too late,” she said on Saturday.

‘We are the ones who can make the difference. When history is made, let’s not be the ones who stayed home and rearranged the china.’

Speaking to Robin, Jane stated that she was taking a break from acting until the next US presidential election to focus on getting rid of “the Joe Manchins” and supporting politicians who are more aligned with her climate agenda.

“We should try to light a fire under Biden and look, we should vote for him, okay? We should get really mad at him and we should try and demand that he deserves our votes. But I mean, let’s be real, because the alternative is the end of everything.’

The day’s festivities also included a cocktail event where Jane was able to catch a glimpse while hobbling with Harry’s widow Pamela Belafonte, who had been wife number three.

An anti-war activist, Jane was infamously caught in Hanoi in 1972 while on top of a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun used against Americans.

That photo landed her a lifetime of fame as “Hanoi Jane,” and she’s been protested by veterans ever since, though some ex-servicemen have also supported her.

During her 1972 trip to enemy territory, she also took part in propaganda broadcasts by the North Vietnamese Army’s Radio Hanoi station.

Speaking on Radio Hanoi, she hinted that US military personnel would not obey their orders — though she claimed in 60 Minutes decades later that she was merely “asking them to think about it.”

After returning to the United States, she said in a 1973 interview quoted by the New York Times that the torture of American prisoners of war was ‘understandable’.

She told KNBC-TV: ‘These men bombed and shelled and napalmed the country. If a prisoner were to try to escape, it is quite understandable that he would probably be beaten and tortured.’

Jane’s only son Troy was named after the Viet Cong bomber Nguyễn Văn Trỗi, who attempted to assassinate United States Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara.

In the 2018 documentary Jane Fonda In Five Acts, she reflected on how her drug use and eating disorders affected her political activities during the Vietnam War.

“I alternated between bulimia and anorexia. I might eat one soft-boiled egg and spinach a day, period. I took Dexedrine, that’s speed,” she said.

“So I was really fast, and I was hungry, and it seemed like all this new information was coming in at a very fast pace,” Jane explained.

“I mean, I’m tense anyway, but when I take Dexedrine without eating, and feel like I have to say it all at once, it’s like — I’m amazed anyone could understand what I was saying.” It was like, “Wow! Who is this woman?”
