Jay Blades has jokingly described the King’s coronation as a “Disney horror movie,” saying the day was “beautiful” but “quite creepy.”

Repair Shop handyman, 53, who was a guest at Westminster Abbey to watch King Charles ascend to the throne on May 6, opened up about the event on ITV today.

“This may sound strange, but if Disney were to make a horror movie … it would be beautiful but at the same time pretty creepy,” he told host Lorraine.

‘Westminster, I’ve been there many times and I’ve never seen it so empty, it was just unbelievable like no one was there because everyone was in the church.

“The choir when they sang, it’s one of the creepiest things I’ve ever seen.”

He added, “Family asked if you took pictures, but we weren’t allowed to take pictures, but I have the memories and that’s enough.”

Asked if it was true that he brought a packed lunch to The Coronation, he revealed that he did.

The TV star said: ‘We had to be at Westminster Abbey by 7.30am and the hotel I was staying in didn’t start breakfast until 8am so they made me a little goodie bag’

“It was kind of nice, and someone I met when I was doing an interview had some gummy bears in his bag, because you need a pudding after breakfast, don’t you.”

Based in Ironbridge, Shropshire, the handyman first met Charles when the Royal Family appeared on his BBC program Repair Shop, which Jay presents.

Jay was one of hundreds of guests who had to be seated at Westminster Abbey at 9am.

Elsewhere, the star spoke about his wife’s marriage to Lisa Zbozen in Barbados in November 2022.

He said, ‘It was hot, but it was really special. It was beautiful, but I hope she doesn’t mind me saying this, but we got married in our villa and then we went to a restaurant, we took the whole family there, but she had to sit in the trunk.

“Because we didn’t have many cars, it was kind of crazy, in her dress.”

When asked if the trunk was open, he replied, “No it wasn’t, it was closed, she was but she was in the trunk.”

Elsewhere, the star revealed he will appear in a special factual series on Channel 5 exploring the East End of London.

The series is titled Jay Blades: History Of The East End and is a Hungry Jay Media production and airs tomorrow at 9pm.

Three one-hour episodes, Jay delves into the unique past of his neighborhood in London’s East End.

He said: ‘It’s an incredible place, the way I enjoyed it there and I never knew how much history there was.

“Once you start digging, the stories, the people, the characters are incredible, it’s like wow.

“I was so surprised, I didn’t know that the French were coming and what they were doing in terms of the silk industry, or weaving I should say.”

Jay went on to say that a Repair Shop special is coming to the BBC soon to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Windrush generation.

Without revealing much, he said, “All I can say is someone came in with a handle, now a handle is what they used to call a suitcase, I’m not going to get too much out of it, but there is a handle.”

In The Repair Shop: A Royal Visit, Charles needed help with an 18th-century bracket clock and a piece made for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee by British ceramics maker Wemyss Ware.

He said the damaged 19th-century ceramic piece fell over when someone opened a window — “they didn’t allow it,” he joked.

People took to social media at the time to share how much they loved their bromance.

Jay revealed on Loose Women that the King even invited him to a sleepover.

On the ITV show, Jay explained: ‘I had no opinion of him but went to meet him and we just clicked and we talked about craft.

“The funny thing is that I was going to go there because I am an ambassador for his charity and he had invited me three times to go there, look around, spend the night and stay at the then prince’s house. .

“I went there on the fourth try after turning it down three times and I told the lady I said I better go or I’ll be kicked out of the country.”
