Jodie Comer leaves Broadway show over air quality concerns

The actress Jodie Comer, who has been nominated for a Tony Award for her tour-de-force performance in the one-woman show ‘prima facea Broadway performance halted shortly after it began on Wednesday afternoon, citing breathing difficulties due to the wildfire smoke that has blanketed New York City.

“Today’s ‘Prima Facie’ matinee was halted about 10 minutes into the performance after Jodie Comer was having trouble breathing due to poor air quality in New York City from smoke from the Canadian wildfires,” Jim Byk, a spokesman for production, it said in a statement.

The performance then resumed with an understudy, Dani Arlington.

Ms. Comer, known for her work on the TV show “Killing Eve,” is a leading contender to win the Tony for Best Actress in a Play at Sunday’s awards ceremony. In “Prima Facie,” she plays a lawyer whose clients include men accused of sexual assault, but who is then sexually assaulted herself and begins to see the justice system in a different way.
